Event Coverage The Corvair Adventure

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by squirrel, Aug 12, 2017.

  1. Cut the body off just above the axle line, rotate it 180 degrees and weld it back on. Put projection lights in the tail light housings, paint the head lights red and give it another whirl next year. Oh... and re-haul the generator.

Or you could donate it to the High School auto shop and give yourself some tax relief. Either way you're certainly one of the most interesting and motivated people on this site and I for one applaud you.

  3. Fantastic! I just love Rube Goldberg solutions to problems on the road. I am happy to learn that you had the tools you needed to solve the problem.
Because I drive old stuff, I always carry my toolbox and a voltmeter.
It is ironic that those roadside repairs are often the stories that make a trip memorable.

Had to take off my shoe a number of times to whack the regulator in my corvair cause the gennie would motor.

Thanx, Jim, for taking us along. I never posted during this trip, but I looked it up every day to see how and what you were doing. I'm pretty sure that there are hundreds of us who did the same.

I'd like to, but it's for a cheap car ($3000 value limit) drag race, and it's really hard to build a fast cheap car that's on topic.

yeah, but making it into what it needs to be would be more work than I want to expend.

Multiply prices x 10 due to 50 years of funny money and it's in the ballpark. Generator armature should be cheap. New brushes are dirt cheap, if you have an extra endplate on hand the whole ass'y can be swapped out in a few minutes.

  24. I wish they had a bit more definitive rules. Just a enough so I could drive a truck through them LOL.
Got any ideas? Of course I do. Better PM me on this one.;)

  25. I have seen one of the previous Tucson meets, and all of the other RoadKill videos, and would enjoy the hell out of doing something like that.

Too far away for me way over here in GA, especially now with a fractured vertebra.
But my question is how do they enforce the $3000 rule? In roundy round races there are "claimer" classes wherein if you get outrun by somebody who you think has more than the limit in his engine, you can put up the cash amount of the engine limit, and the guy has to sell his engine to the claimer or forfeit his position.

it's totally subjective. If the guys think it's worth more, you're out. If they think it's worth less, you're in.

Cool story. I too went from a 58 Edsel to a 62 Corvair. And without irony,.... I think they both were perfect for their time and place.

  30. Jim, you guys have cojones the size of basketballs. This is going to top the Edsel adventure!
