As fast as they're deleted a few more pop up. What's the point?

What makes me wonder is "Why do they do it?" I can't believe there has ever been one sale of anything made because of an O/T spam ad on an enthusiast forum. I have to think there is something else behind all of this.

looks like the registration form for the site needs captcha to prevent these bots from being able to create new accounts

I joined the "Stovebolt Forum" and had to jump through a lot of hoops before I was able to post anything but a "New Guy" message. I found it annoying, but something like that may just be necessary.

I actually got way less than usual. You just need a good SPAM filter. Maybe this thread is SPAM.

  11. I think it's mostly a matter of somebody getting some payment just for getting someone to click on the links in the ads, whether it actually sells any merchandise or not. aka "Pay Per Click". Obviously not something that the JJ or Ryan profit from.

Are you guys browsing right past them or opening up the post and clicking on the "!REPORT!" button on the posts/placing a notice so the moderator group is notified immediately? I do it whenever I see SPAM posts. I just reported one in the classifieds that had only been up for a minute.
The moderators rely on the notification so they don't have to actively be looking for SPAM 24/7. If we practice our due diligence, it gets reported immediately and removed, the HAMB won't be a soft target. Sort of like painting over graffiti before anyone even sees it.

I reported at least a dozen of them earlier this morning and when they were deleted a dozen more popped up. Most days there's one or two but it was really bad today. Hopefully this won't keep happening on a daily basis...

I thought if you click on the spam post even if your just reporting it, it will count as a hit just like they wanted it to?

That's not how it works. For it to work for pay for clicks, you'd have to click on a link that takes you off this site.

  25. Yep this is how it works just like the Gimp said.

Hit report and go on with life. Do not assume that someone else has already hit the report button.

I don't think it is all that bad. Just this morning I made orders to lose weight, boost my manliness and meet beautiful Russian women. Best morning I've had in a while. Beats reading about "too old to work on or drive my car" threads. Maybe they are targeting our site because they have been reading our threads.

HRTH has got it right, see it, report it! I try to report every one I see. You guys not seeing any are probably not on the forum real late at night or real early in the mornings, that is when it seems to be the worst to me. They are probably some lowlife sitting in their momma's basement whacking off while they post that spam crap.
