Could this have been a flower car for funerals originally? The raised, squared-off area around the bed gives it that look.

What make is this truck? It brings back a childhood memory from Chicago: The old Adventureland amusement park had a derelict fire engine for the kids to play on and it had this same front end; when I saw it I thought at first it was a Duesenberg (hey, I was eight years old). ID please?

There was a photo of Parnelli bailing out of the right side of the car, about three feet off the ground and parallel to the deck with the flames / heat distortion in the background.

When asked about his departure from Calhoun, Parnelli was quoted as saying " I didn't care if I broke a leg or what, all I wanted from that son of a bitch was OUT ! ".

Slim Helson's F.I Corvette-engined Maserati. He told me that once at a race he gave Zora-Arkus Duntov some gaskets he needed. Soon after, a 4' x 4' crate arrived at his house with F.I. units, all kinds of other goodies from Duntov as a thank you. And one time he freaked people out at the track by hacking a hole in the aluminum hood with a hatchet to get more air to the engine

    Wonder Bowl Anaheim, 1959
    upload_2017-8-21_7-53-52.png Anaheim Historical Society
    Hello,

The Wonder Bowl was located on Katella Avenue in Anaheim, CA. The bowling alley was bought by Disneyland in 1985 and turned it into a storage facility for the park’s decorations and entertainment props. Disney demolished the Wonder Bowl facility to create another parking lot. Late 50’s architecture so popular in So Cal. Much like the drive in theaters scattered all over So Cal, land values rose and the property was torn down to make way for more profitable ventures.

We were bowling fanatics up to senior year in high school. It did not hurt to live three blocks from a bowling alley near our Westside Long Beach house. (Sante Fe Bowl…before bowling, it was a neighborhood movie theater) On the way to school and back, this was a pit stop for a Cherry Coke and a couple of games of bowling. We started to get good at bowling. By the time we were in cars, we started to go all over to bowl at different places, Kona Lanes in Costa Mesa, Java Lanes in Signal Hill, Red Fox Lanes in North Long Beach, Major Bowl on Anaheim St.(near our church) Circle Bowl on the Traffic Circle, and the Boulevard Bowl on LB Blvd.

There were so many choices of bowling alleys back then, but they all came down later due to rising land costs and business profitability. We were such fanatics that we sneaked out of Sunday services to walk down the street to bowl a few games until our ride home came outside at the end of the service.

I drove by a place in Costa Mesa, recently, that had mini lanes in a shopping center. It is one of the newest bowling alleys in the area. Daytime/Nightime bowling…a new concept. You drive by in the day...you can see people bowling. But, at night, that whole, long, glass window is lit up like a 60's head shop...that is a cool concept.

  15. It's a '40 alright, with the deluxe front bumper. Looks like a small town somewhere in Australia. The body companies in Australia...(Holden, TJ Richards, and more...made many different bodies for the Willys than were ever made here).
There is an early Willys Phaeton in our area, what a neat looking Willys. G-willys !
