That's some sad news. The times are truly changing. Maybe it's time to get back into street racing, so they'll build tracks to keep us safe.
I never saw the "new irwindale" as I left the area in early seventies but I ran the old 1/4 mile track couple times a month in late 60's-early 70's, along with Lion's and OCIR. A shame whenever a strip shuts down.
