I guess that we will not have to worry about any posts relating to Country Classics, at least in the short term: http://fox2now.com/2017/08/08/classic-car-shop-destroyed-in-5-alarm-blaze/ I feel sorry for anyone who had their car there on consignment. Roo
That really blows, I enjoyed "shopping" their website. I wonder if some of my favorites died there, probably.
Lots of news coverage on the web. It was in the sticks, no hydrant hook up so the fire department pumpers were all they had. I was just on Hemmings... didn't see any of their car ads, I guess they pulled them?
I do a search for old Fords on Hemmings and they always come up with at least a few cars in every year I search under.
Our local 'Classic consigner' closed his doors recently...'Almeida's' was right off 99, in Turlock. Gone now...
I looked at their facility on Google maps. It looks like that most of the cars are kept inside. It seems to be the longest building parallel to 55 that burned. If the whole thing went up I can only imagine what they lost.
This is the long building I mentioned above. This is the front you see in the news covering the blaze.
The report I read said the building was 150' long. That building is much larger than that. They also said they still had plenty of cars that were not damaged so they will be ok. Sucks to lose that many old cars. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I saw photos of what burned. Looked like a lot of truck and hamb era cars mixed with some newer things. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The facility was pretty nice I done a bunch of work on a OT 69 dz302 camaro for a local guy he had them sell it for him if memory serves me correctly the insurance is responsibility of the owner during consignment those guys were pretty nice to deal with at least on the selling side of things lol sad deal though I was just by there on my way to and from the meltdown guess I should have stopped Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Yeah, I've heard both good and bad things about them, it's a dealer and in my opinion you can never trust a dealer either way, so I'd expect some shady cars for higher prices. I do remember my dad taking me there when i was 5 or 6 and i jumped into a bunch of the cars there, it was my version of a candy store as a kid. As we left, we saw a sign that said "do not open doors or hoods" oops
I always thought fire destroys the strength/properties of metal. But I dunno. Can any of the sheet metal be saved? Very tragic fire indeed.
News report said approximately 150 of the 600 cars were lost. About 5% of their inventory is on consignment. Damn shame.
Dammit! Just behind the '46 Chevy - there's the '65 Imperial convertible I mentioned in the other thread (the guy looking for someone to check the '53 Packard). I think I'm gonna be sick.
