Damn, so much welding and grinding. My hands are numb just looking at it! Very cool build, I'm loving it!

Just cut off what you need from the bottom and there is no weld across the center. Bob

Those doors will be a walk in the park after what you did to the firewall and cowl. Not a custom guy but I am impressed with your work.

That would only work if the contour of the door is the same top to bottom.... Not likely.

I think what he is saying is to cut the door skin only at the bottom, but section the door frame at its verticle point.

Here's some pics of my progress today on the drivers door. Didn't get anything welded, just cut down. I then bolted the 2 door halves to the hinges to make sure the door opens and closes. I'm pretty happy with the fit. I was scared about the contour of the door as well... But I've been planning each cut for months now. Still a ton of work to get it back together, but I'll get there. Thanks everybody for the comments. I enjoy reading them all. 20170806_155131.jpg 20170806_155145.jpg 20170806_155152.jpg 20170806_155227.jpg 20170806_161544.jpg 20170806_161613.jpg 20170806_175603.jpg 20170806_175631.jpg 20170806_175643.jpg 20170806_175724.jpg

  21. Yep, all the above man, you certainly could fill some very large shoes in the Kustom kar work with no trouble at all. You made that door look so easy but then you have said how much thought and planning you had on it before the first cut so that in itself is a lesson for us .

I worked on the door a little. Got some patch panels made to get rid of some rust on the door frame. Then I got it trimmed and hammered the skin back on. Got the frame lined up. The hinge area definitely tested me but I think I've got it square now. Got it tacked and bolted back on. I have a tiny twist in the door that I have to take care of... Once I figure out how. But the door is on, reskinned, fits, and opens and closes! I think I'm on the right track. 20170809_165249.jpg 20170809_175153.jpg 20170809_175238_HDR.jpg 20170809_175252.jpg 20170809_175405.jpg

  24. I just got caught up, your bouncing along at a good pace.
Summers usually the busiest time for pigment implantation specialists, so I'm glad your still able to find time for this.
I really enjoy jumping in here to see how much further along it's come.

  26. Looks good! Several years ago I took one of Gene Winfield's metal working courses out at his shop. During the weekend, we sectioned a 58 Impala. Did the doors the exact same way you did.

Unbelievable for a first timer! Will look amazing.. Sometimes a door twist can be fixed by just being the boss and twisting it back into shape. Good luck..

Got the door recontoured. Relieve cuts everywhere. It lines up and opens and closes... But, I hate it. It's not right. It's gotta go. 20170817_182448.jpg 20170817_182527.jpg

I guess I don't see it? The first pic looks pretty good, welding those cuts ain't nothing you haven't done already . Do you have s shrinking disc? Might come in handy there. Did you have to cut the inner door also? With all you've done I'm sure you'll just look at it again and fix it. I thought the rear pan was going to be the challenge, you nailed that. We'll watch and see what you do.
