Wow!!!! I have been doing this stuff all my life (I'm 53) and that is some of the best fabrication work I have seen. I would LOVE to paint that car! The HoK Kandy Bronze would be super fine as well as good old classic CAR! Thank you for posting your build! -Frank

  7. No, I wish I did. I work in a production collision shop. I work on boring late model junk all day everyday. But I can't complain too much because it lets me afford to play with my own stuff at home.

  12. That has been my biggest hang up on this car. For the longest time I was planning on painting it that pearl gold color. A few years ago when I was starting to plan out this chop I was going to two tone the car. That's when I got the '55 Pontiac side trim. I was gonna do the top gold and the rest of the car black. But as time went on I changed my mine about the two tone, for one because I hate taking care of black paint. Then I got to thinking I would kind of like a original color on the car for a more classy and period correct look.
Recently I found a picture of a Shoebox and as soon as I saw it it hit a nerve with me. The more I look at it the more I'm sure it's the right color for this car. [IMG]

It's Meadow Green, original color from '49-'50.
I also am not going to use the Pontiac trim on the car either. I got a set of '55 Chevy hardtop side spears that I'm gonna use.

  14. I have the window half welded up. I probably have about 10 hours into welding, hammering and dollying so far.

Meadow green is the original color of my 51 Shoebox, I'm torn between the original color and that semi gloss black. The interior is getting done all black.

I love gloss black. My Harley was black, my OT Mustang was black with white stripes. Both looked tits all cleaned up, ready to go out......for about 15 minutes after I was done doing them up. I'll never put black on anything ever again. I'd rather be driving or riding than cleaning them up. I'm liking the green.
What kind of tig machine do you have?

I was looking up the color codes for Meadow green and according to paintref ford has many shades with the same name.

Scott, I watch your video and they were great, I like you worked in body shops for 60+ years. And people with your talent are greatly unappreciated. They want that type of repair done but are not willing to pay. They always seem to give the easiest jobs with most hour to some R&R tech. And you get the hard stuff for the labor rate. Scott you are a true body man with old school skills. I always enjoy looking at your work. Frank

  26. Very slow, really haven't worked on it much this summer. I got sidetracked when I put a drop axle and disk brakes in my wife's F1. Then racing season came along and I've been busy on my sons racing kart. [IMG]
I did get the roof welded on solid last night tho. [IMG]
Working on getting the package tray back together now.

  29. I really love the way your car is coming. The chop looks great! My 13 year old son recently got a shoebox for his first car and he is planning out the build now (with lots of help from me). Anyway, I will be following along and anxious to see the latest color you mentioned.
