I don't have a photo right now, but a friend had to custom weld a header for me to use the Volvo box. I wouldn't use a Volvo box now that Jamco offers an aftermarket replacement.

I recently picked up my '49 shoebox and decided to see if this thread was dead. I just want to be like the cool kids and post pics of my shoebox. I say recently, but in reality I bought this shoebox a year ago with the flathead V8. Flat head died on me just days after buying the car. Took the next several months to throw a 327 in it. Take good care of it..The way these are getting turned into chopped customs is going to delete the supply. Every time I get in mine it tickles me to death....

  10. Agreed Seb......A few years from now all those OVER Chopped Shoeboxes wont bring anyones attention. Like Pepto-Bismol Pink and Teal cars of the '80's....They have been WAAAYYYY overdone.....

Here's my 50 when I found it this winter. Just got it to my shop here lately and I've been working my ass off on her. Got her looking a lot better now, (cleaner anyway). Gonna be kind of a slow motion project, I want to use the flathead and it's got a couple problems. Just about my first Ford, so far I like it a LOT!

The timing might not be good from the sound of the posts right now, but here's mine, that won't be worth anything in a few more years...

The car has 85000 miles original, now 90000 miles and still road tripping!

If you insist on chopping it, use restraint -- cut it an inch or two. People are constantly ruining shoeboxes by chopping them radically.
Your Meteor grille is neat. Seldom seen nowadays.

  16. I needed some kind of shifter, so I used this old British bayonet. I think it's kinda cool.

Still putting miles on this ol' shoe.
289 with the original 3spd w/OD. Rear from a 51 automatic car. Great cruiser getting 20 mpg. And the best part is, it doesn't have a SBC in it!

  20. my buddy paul garland will be chopping it. I am building as period correct as possible it will be a mild chop for sure. thanks for noticing the grill I searched for a long time to find it.

  21. Glendale... Looks like Photobucket screwed you too.... what an awful excuse for a website.. I got off of it about 3 or 4 years ago when the ads got so bad one could hardly see the pictures that were posted... LOVE my "paid" ($8.00 per month) PREMIUM subscription to SmugMug...

It's just great that you got your car back...

Just got back into the shoebox club with this '50 coupe... I'm not sure if I'll build it or sell it yet, I've got enough projects but just love the '49-51 business coupes. It came with a perfect pair of doors and hood. If I do build it it'll most likely get a Flathead, skirts, leave it unchopped, add french headlights, custom tail lights, and add spotlights and custom side trim.
    We'll see! 20170726_161329.jpg 20170726_162705.jpg

Hi, I just saw this thread. I purchased my 49' shoebox in late May of this year. So far i've replaced the from spring with Aerostar springs, rebuilt the front end and replaced the kingpin, added two in block to the rear (wished I had gone lower so adding lowering shackle on rear this weekend), new drum brakes and chrome trim rings on wheels. Have to figure where a battery drain is coming from or rewire the car.
Its my first Ford and I love the sound of the flathead V8...can't wait to get duels and porters mufflers.
