Richard, if he wants to run a folding top, I have a buddy here in D that would be happy to lend his templates and measurements for the frame. He did an outstanding job of it and it just looks right on his A rdstr P/U..
I love 'old, cast-off parts'...as they are called by Street Rodders. A forging trumps a billet carving. Also trumps a casting. Especially one from the far East. Old stamped steel makes wonderful 'shapes'. A generous friend with a huge scrap pile is a friend indeed.
I now save all the usable sheetmetal cut offs... but nowadays I label them with a paint marker before i throw them onto the pile so I can remember what I cut it off from ...
Truck has been on the road for a while. It made it out of the basement, was put togeather and registered. I just bought this truck (from the original builder) and plan to do a few changes to it as i go namely: Get the top done in black canvas I got 30-31 headlights to replace the small ones on there currently. Also got this hood i plan on running the top only. Other plans include some new rear tires (blackwalls) And other stuff as i go! Also: that door is the same door posted earlier but from the inside
It's always good to see cast off junk transformed into a functional vehicle, but it's even better when it turns out as neat as your truck. Nice work! Sent from my SM-G950W using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Your 'scrap-pile' makes mine look like a..... 'junk pile'! Nice look'in so far. Get well soon, 6sally6
with the truck tranny you should have a pto for a winch and make a wrecker boom. every growing boy should have a tow truck
Well shoot, had a cold snap Up here and popped a frost plug, also froze the water pump solid! A torch, new plug and some coolant later and i nursed it home! Going to swap out all the frost plugs to be safe!
Much needed nice A buckets added, plan to paint the hood top tomorrow and doing some other odds and ends
Way better with those lights! Cool little rig. I’d thought about running a granny low like a reverse overdrive. Put highway friendly gears in the rear and start it in second, when you want to act like you’ve got 4:10’s in it at the stop light grudge match you stick it down into first
Like what you're doing to the RPU to make it a driven Ol' Skool hotrod. Too bad about the frozen coolant but then again Stuff Happens and you got off easy. Look forward to a ride when you get it back on the road and the weather warms up. Pinstripes add character LOL
Inspirational. Now I have to go rub my chin and wonder if '32 Ford front fenders will work with a '34 International hood.. Add my gold metal flake steering wheel..... mmmmm the possibilities.
More updates! Painted the hood and added an old ford wheel cap as a grill emblem i had lying around. Starting to take shape
Beer is proof GOD loves us and wants us to be happy!..( Benjamin Franklin)! Cool car built the " traditional way" ( with whatever is available cheap!) think I might have to upgrade the flex pipe headers at some point...
Small update: Got lights wired up! Tomorrow i will be pulling the motor and getting all the leaks taken care of! And then i will be wrapping the headers, that should be the next update stay tuned
1st post, 5th picture down. How wide is the rear axle or maybe I should ask which rear spring is that? My shackles are up against the backing plate
Headlights make it, especially with actual light coming out of them. Take the valve covers off and see how much crud there is. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Then it escalated quickly...which turned into ordering a new clutch, surface flywheel, new ring gear, thermostat and housing gakset, rear main seal, pan seal, basically resealing everything. Also fan belt was too long wearing a groove in the lower rad hose so got a shorter fan belt, more of a bend on the hose (will post pics when its back together) Also a shot of the old clutch up there, should last the season hopefully after all this
Also winter rad flush (indoors as its freezing outside) for good measure, the inside of rad and block was caked in crud, including the block drain being plugged solid.
Off Topic. - what does that expression "may 86" mean? I have a Toyota with the model name "86"; should I be concerned?
I think you're trying to exploit "Internet's" challenged money-conversion capabilities. I think $500Cdn was about $380US. Nice try!
Car and top are beautiful, but looks to be a factory roadster body. I'd be wary of any dimensions from offered plans, since this car is of entirely closed car derivation. Would be a good starting point however, with the differences accommodated.
Presumably, you paid enough so builder could recoup some of his labor, say 10 or 20 bucks or so over his $65 investment. Really nice car, but I do have a concern that I apologize for mentioning. The rear end is obviously an open (non-torque-tube) type. In the early pictures, I didn't notice anything to prevent the rear end from rotating about its axis, under acceleration or braking, without depending on the lateral (fore and aft) stiffness of the spring. And regardless, such a fore and aft force places a large moment on the shackle support plate to axle housing weld, in the weak direction. This could be alleviated to a degree with some gussets in the fore-and-aft/vertical plane.
