This 1955 gasser was featured in Popular Hot Rodding in the 70s. Does anyone know who owned it and what ever happened to it? I just am interested in what the history of it has been in the last 30-40 years. Thanks, Kurt
I remember that !! I bought that issue when I was a kid. Made me really, really like '55 Chevs. Sorry, no idea where the car went. I'd be interested in knowing, too.
Not sure what happened to it, but it really exemplifies the "Street Freak" movement of the 70's, not really a gasser
Hey brother.....this picture comes from our own HAMBer "Peter Pan of Chicago" who knows about this 55's past. It's a Chicago car so drop Joel a line and maybe he can give you afew more answers to as where this street freak disappeared to. Good luck.
Interesting thread! It wasn't so long ago that gassers were looked at as freaks among the conformist rodders! Trends change...let your "Freak-flag" Fly!!!!
For some reason Im remembering that car with twin stacks. I need to dig out that old issue of Pop Hot Rodding.
I loved this car when I was a kid and used to draw pictures of it. Very nostalgic for me. I guess that's why I like the HAMB.
Any Modesto HAMBers remember a similar 55 in that area? Sometimes you'd see it cruising Mchenry with a 56 Ford done in the same style...the Ford belonged to a guy in Stockton.
Exactly. A friend of mine built one like this in '74. Realized his mistake and put the stock suspension back in.
Yes, NOT a Gasser, but was in the Street Freaks Edition of Car Craft Magazine I believe. Oh the humanity. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
It first appeared on a cover rag in 1974 , mine was (so-cal) rolling in 1967. you do the math, i may have been one of the 1st ones. .
Cover of May 1974 Popular Hotrodding. Loved it then/love it now. There were a ton of tri fives done in that style. Mostly 55/56's. I remember buying the magazine in High School and because I liked 55's so much I bought one soon after as my first car.
I drove up -n- down el cajon blvd /university ave, toured the beaches, silver strand all the way up into jolla beach mid 60's and beyond. El cajon / santee bla bla bla
