I have asked this in the past on the altered thread, but would there be any interest in a strict rules, period correct, altered class similar to what Quain Stott and the SEG guys have? I have started on a basic set of rules, but still have a long way to go.

It would be cool to stand something up that could compliment the SEG guys events. I am going to attach a poll with some options.

Please keep in mind this is going to be an era correct group, so if you are looking for a group to run your ProMod 27 T. This wouldn't be for you. The reason the SEG guys do so well, is the fact that they stick by their guns. I appreciate that.

    Thanks,

    Root

Man if I can quit braking my door car I could start bending some tubing.
My plan is to have some more space by this fall so I can get my bender set up and start some bending.
I have a cage to build for another door car then it's on to bending up a digger like Wrenchbenders.
Then I could see an altered in the making.

I'm going to work on the rules soon. I'm not too hung up on the transmissions, I think the blower may limit who can run against you until it gets bigger.

BEAUTIFUL CAR - Looks like you sit BEHIND the axle......sitting in front of the axle has always been in the definition of altered vs dragster or comp coupe - I'm all for including comp coupes if it attracts more cars. other things to think about for a group......rear suspension (mine has none), track width (mine is at 42" in the rear per old rule minimums, engine set back (im at 25%, again, per old rules)

Mine is the same, but the rear end needs to be narrowed up a bit. That's in the plans for the future.

Look at 1964 NHRA rulebook for starters. I found it online, it may have even been a link on the hamb. I don't wanna spend hundreds of hours writing rules, if it's gonna be me by myself.

Nice car . That was a Comp coupe that ran with the dragsters, but in the interest of car count it looks like an altered to me. I could just take the front clip off my Morris and it would be an altered.
Like some of the Gassers did back in the day. They would show up and check out the competition and change classes by taking the tilt front end off and running with the altered's which was usually smaller car counts. Saw quite a few 33 Willys with no front clip running as altered.

If you can get a few cars together and talk to Quain about letting you run between rounds, that may help spark interest among the masses to build and join you. Hey, look what has happened with the SEG's in a few short years.

I appreciate what Quain and the guys have done for vintage drag racing. I was getting so tired of watching promod willys being called "nostaligia gassers". These guys get it. I may just build a gasser in the end, just to be a part of a great organization.

I just figured it would be cheaper and easier for the most guys on a budget to build an altered. Drop $500 on a Speedway glass T, buy some 2x3 tubing, and some swap meet parts and you are on your way.

I think I may need to travel to one of their events to meet Quain in person and chat with him.

I like the sound of it....wouldn't have to spend a bunch of money to have a car that would be fast without having to build a high H/P engine.

I think I spent about $120 on the chassis for the Fly. Not counting the cage tubing. I used a 36 Ford front crossmember I had laying around and some 2x3 tubing. Sold mount rear axle and a 36 ford front axle and spring. The rear was out of a 65 Ford F100. I had more money in the pumpkin than I did anything.

it doesn`t take much motor for a 1700 lb car to be quick. I`m running 10. 0 which is the open wheel class limit and had to cripple the car with a 3.50 rear gear, shifting at 5800, going thru the lights at 5500 with a 3000 $ small block. wish you were closer to ca . , I`d recert the cage and reinstall the injection and play
