Yes, the time is intense. But I'm actually starting to enjoy it.
    Because things are going good.
I'm wearing a good 3M respirator all the time and working outside in front of my garage.
Using my air hose to blow big clouds of dust away.
Better than in the garage :D

I'm awful glad not to be doing this for a living :D

  2. Now you guys will understand my signature sentence I took from the lyrics of a song written by the late great Waylon Jennings, " I'm a little bit crazy, but it stops me going insane ". When I think back to the amount of lead filler that I sanded using electric tools etc without any face mask and then the body fillers of old which only God or a chemist would know what was in it, then I'm surprised that I still have excellent lungs. But then I only took up the bad habit of smokin' in my early twenties and then only for approximately three years before I decided I was wasting valuable money that could be spent on my next project. I am so looking forward to getting out into the workshop again and working on the body of my Roadster.;)

  4. Thanks Jeremy, but our judiciary in the family court system are so busy, my lawyer is now thinking it will be between September and Christmas before we can have a resolution to the issues that have unsettled my life and Mums'. Never mind, now back to the programmed channel and sanding dust and nice smooth finger tips.

Really though, one thing I've noticed in my limited time around body shops is to pay attention to your air hose while spraying. It's easy to drag it across something freshly painted or get it snagged on something then F up your spray pattern.

Pick up some GOOD tac clothes for a last minute wipe down just before you start spraying. :)

  8. Glad I could help Larry.

It was cool to get to see your progress in person but now after seeing how small that body is I really don't want to hear any more complaints. :D

    Looking forward to future updates.

Ok, I promise, no more complaints :D I think I'm getting past the worst of it now so it's looking up :)
I went on Eastwood and ordered a run razor and some tiny little aluminum blocks  (just in case ;))
I also ordered some good tack cloths.
Took the day off today because it's my B'day :D
Thanks for the product and moral support too :)

Happy Birthday Larry, I am anxiously waiting to see the paint job when you get it done! I'm sure it will look very good when you get it finished as you are wired to make things top shelf.

    Patience Fred :D
I just spent another 8 or 9 hours block sanding and then filling and then sanding most of it off and more blocking :D
Spent about half the day prepping the pickup bed.
Then lots of time fussing with the edges all around the body and bed.

Getting close to being satisfied to where I can lay on the high build.
Progress is being made :D ;)

The body and doors and the grille shell are coated with a nice heavy layer of high build polyester primer -surfacer.
    Now for the bed...

Probably so although the temperature here today was 30 C - 86 F.

I had everything done before the heat of the day kicked in, it's about 15C in the early morning.

You do what you have to do, work when it works for you, just get the job done!
We had a break in the weather, it was about the same here, just not as cool in the morning.

Now you can understand why low man on the totem pole or any apprentices get stuck with sanding work. And it sure isn't "So you can learn the trade" like the older guys tell you.

How do you keep the High-Build primer from filling the details like the panel line and the Ford lettering in the tailgate? How do you get to the tailgate latch brackets and rivets to keep them from looking like gobs of old paint?

You sand down smoothly around them by hand and then the details appear as they should be and you can then proceed to go on your crime spree ;) :D as your fingerprints are no longer there :D:D

:p I'm slow but I'm striving for quality ;) And the hours pile up...... :D
Sure glad I work cheap :D

Are we there yet :D ?
    Another day closer.
Started at 6 AM and fine tuned a few low spots I found while blocking the high build.
After that I realized that the one side of the cowl that had been coated heavier than the other parts of the body (it's a mystery :D) with high build blocked and out really nice and smooth.

So, cleaned it up and back in the booth and shot another 2 coats of high build.

It's sanding out really nice now
Spent a bunch of time on the firewall.
    Stopped at 5 PM.

Tomorrow will be blocking with 320 and then 400.

That's just the body, then there are all the other parts like the doors and bed, all of which have had some attention but need more. :D

I have to say I'm actually enjoying this.
