Hey - I know this has been covered before; just looking for opinions.

Getting ready to buy tires and wheels. I'm getting chrome oe for the front, 5", and chrome oe reversed, 6", for the rear from Coker. I'm getting Firestone blackwall 820-15s for the rear. The front tires are my question.. are 710-15s the right choice?

Here is a pic of the car ( best side shot I have ) / current front tires are about 26" tall. .. IMG_20170420_191231_043.jpg

    And a current pic IMG_20170608_204226_028.jpg

I think 7.10's are a bit big for that application. Maybe 6.70 at the most and most guys would suggest 5.60, I think. Personally, I like a bit beefier tire than many folks, even on the front.

    IMO.................
    710's on front are Tall,
560' may put the chin on the ground but are matches to deluxe champs pie crust
They make a 640 but maybe not in firestone pie crusts.

I have dropped 36 axle on my 34 pickup and when I went to 15's and 560's it put the nose on the ground. Looked better with 550 x 16 but wanted to lose tubes at all costs.

I guess I wasn't searching the Coker site correctly. ..640-15 looks good to me. That's will make approximately a 2.5" difference, front to back...

  5. Smaller fronts for sure. That coupe is screaming for some rake!! Remember, 2 1/2" diameter difference is only 1 1/4" of rake.

A tire height difference of about 5" looks good on highboys like yours.

Hi. You likely already realize this but just in case you did not - When taking the difference in tire diameters the raise or drop is only half the difference in the diameters. Example a 2" smaller difference in tire diameter results in a 1" lower front end measured at the spindle.

    Ben,
The car is looking killer! You know I like a rubber rake so I'm in the 5.60-15 camp. Having said that, I know you like your tires more evenly matched so maybe a 6.70-15, but that would definitely be the max, IMHO.

First of course check ground clearance issues such as driveway etc. I temporarily went from 205/75/15 front wheels to 195/65/14" & found the header flanges would ever so slightly drag as I entered my garage approach.

  11. 560 in front and I would buy 16" rims and tires .....

6.50's max for the front...I'd do the 5.60's personally.

Rake that thing. Smaller tire up front and fat boys in the back. And that thing is killer. I like the car as is. But IMO rake w smaller tire up front. I don't own a car like this but if I Did I would show some example pics so u can see the ideas these guys are telling ya.

The first and most important is the way it looks. Any rodder who tells the truth will tell you that. Everything else is secondary!

  20. 5.60 or 5.90x15 from Coker are just about the same height if I recall correctly. I am using 5.90s in the front of my A now, but used 5.60s in the sixties. 5.90s have a higher load rating.

I ended up going with 710-15s up front and 820-15s in the rear.

Rides great! Feels basically the same around town; rides a little bit rougher on the highway. No biggie. It rained yesterday and it's squirrelly when you get into it, but that's to be expected. On dry pavement it's a tire fryer. Good times.
