So I finally got around to using the column shifter that came with my 40 column that I put in my 41 ford last year. the car has a turbo 350 trans. It didn't come with the linkage rods for me to use the 2-3 rod like everyone says so I used the cable off my trans to a bracket and to the stock 2-3 shift arm on the column. It goes though all the gears. Like the column I had to short the shifter itself because of the ps box. Anyway the weird part was when I put it in gear it moves the column tube also. There is grease at both ends of the assembly. I can only guess its binding with mounts at the top or bottom. Not sure I have all the parts for this. should I shorten it a 1/4" or so it has some movement back and forth? Thanks for any help.

    Pictures?
The shifter is attached to the column, it might be that you need to tie the column tube to the toe board to keep it from moving, then allowing the arm to do its (new) job

I was just looking up floor mounts on ebay for this no one really has 1 1/2" its gonna end up homemade I guess

  6. L bracket and a gear clamp = 1 1/2. Look at the tri 5 floor brackets.

Make your own floor bracket and you will be fine. Here is one I made for my 33 roadster using a 40 column shift for the automatic.

1/8 plate — 1 3/4 tubing and set screws to keep it from moving. You can remove the column by using set screws.
