I bought this on craiglist . it was a 1962 f-85 olds cutlass with factory 4 speed and alum 215 v8. the guy I bought it off wanted the motor back . I gave him motor and tranny back. here is picture of it when I got it. since then I have done some work to it. when I figure out how to use this forum better I could add pictures 2017_0417olds19620003.JPG

Where are you from? It would be cool if you could find another Olds engine to put in it instead of one from a Chevy like everybody else. Good luck.... :)

Neat looking cars. What are you figuring to use for an engine?

The Rover company bought the tooling from GM and built the same engine for years and years. If you can find a wrecked Range Rover and buy the engine cheap. I don't know what kind of trans you could use.

Another choice would be a 3.8 Buick V6 which is a close relative.

Otherwise a Chev V8 would be cheapest.

The Buick 300 is a cast iron stroked version of the 215, but I would go with a Rover.

  6. The last time I was in one of those cars was when my mother worried about popping the key out of the ignition while the car was running. I was about 5. Dad was running a drawbar pull J.I.Case combine with a cotton belt to feed the thresher, tractor PTO and ground wheel powered mechanicals. Car was primarily white in color.
Looks like the front wheels are related to Pinto or Ford Capri.
Make Mondello happy! Make it Olds!

haychrishay I think we are waaaayy beyond that now. I just gave some new motor mounts to a guy in Portland OR who is putting one of those engines in a 33 Willys.

The car i bought was sitting in a barn in napa ca , since 1972 . it had so much rat crap though out the car and a giant nest in the trunk it took me days of power washing with bleach just to start working on the car. any way i found a little booklet in the glove box that the owner had used in keeping a very accurate account of the gas mileage on the little 215 v8 its was not to good mostly around 13 mpg.

Does this have the 15" 4bolt rims? Or 13" like the Buick Specials?

  15. Love it! The grille/front end is nice looking. Best thing to do with an early '60's GM compact is to lose the factory driveline. Apologies to Winnona..

  17. To help with your choice of engine........Jack Brabham, an Oz driver of some note had a word to Phil Irving an engineer of some note and both had a word to an Oz company Repco in the early 60's and came up with a few SOHC heads and other bits to make the 215 get up & go.............I don't know if a Repco Brabham engine would fit but would certainly put a smile on a few faces.....lol.....cost might be a small issue tho'........lol......on a more down to earth choice, Leyland here in Oz used the 215 and came out with a 260 cube version in 1973-75 in the Oz only Leyland P76...........anyway back in reality, your car, your choice but neat car.....Rusty's suggestions are probably the most sensible........lol........regards, andyd

yes your right it was a tiny little two piece deal no way it would power a heavy 9inch ford, and the clutch being side stepped at 4 grand lol

Love those cars. I had one for years with a 350 chevy, 4 speed and a pinto front end.

I'm surprised no one (as of yet) balked at your plan to axle this car, especially since it seems like
a righteous ride. So I'll be the first, but I realize it's your car, not mine.

set up where i want engine set back to be, waiting on a set of fenderwell headers to come in from speedway motors to finalize the location. my guy that was putting together the engine was in a bad accident and is in coma from a driver who was texting and driving. plowed right into him at a stop sign.
