That is a lot like the Suburban I had at at FT Carson in the 70's. But the engine swap was much more primitive...Yours has turned out well! Bill
The black and white photo of the lad with wrench's in hand should be a poster. Wow great stuff . Like your burb too.
I try to keep the kids involved, here they are painting the insides of all the fenders black with brushes. All three boys loved it! They got it on thick, which is exactly what I wanted. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Got most of the wiring done, AC installed etc. I had it on the road for a few weeks, ran ok but had a lot of blowby. My dad and I figured out that the #1 cylinder had a miss. Turns out #1 had very little compression. Pulled the head because we were sure it was a bad valve... not the case. So we had to drop the pan and pulled the piston. Found the problem! I'm really lucky it didn't hurt the cylinder wall at all. Replaced the piston and rod bearing, put it back together. Runs great and no blowby. Seems to have a little more power running on all 8 now! ;-) I got this engine off craigslist, the guy didn't know anything about it... glad I got a good deal.
awesome build! I love that suburban! Any chance you have pics showing the floor/frame mounted booster set up with both brake and clutch pedals? I've got the CCP power booster set up that comes with the pedal kit for my 49 AD. The problem is the new pedal kit doesn't allow for a clutch pedal. So I'm trying to figure out a way to use the power booster and keep my clutch pedal.
Thanks Man! I used the original pedals and stock clutch linkage (extended). I also have the CCP booster. The directions said I couldn't use the original clutch pedal, but I did and it does work. Here are a few pics... still real dirty underneath from the blasting. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
cool - at least I know it's possible. Got any shots of the bracket that shows how the booster is mounted to the frame? Here's what I have: wondering if it will work if I cut the pedal assembly from the bracket
I would say yes you are better off using the stock brake/clutch pedals, looks like what you have is for an automatic.... Here is a pic of what I basically have. looks like it mounts more towards the rear of the truck than yours, so if you did cut the pedal off it would need to go back to clear I think... or just get the correct bracket from CCP... it bolts right to the original holes on the frame.
Wait.. looks like this one is just for the master cylinder not the booster.. you will need the one with 4 holes.
Outstanding. There was a good post a few weeks ago about using Bilistien shocks and anti sway bars on straight axel trucks. Made them better than new.
