hi i am in the process of replacing the torque tube rear end in my 53 chevy. me and my dad tried separating the torque tube from the centre section with no success, it would come out a few inches but then not go any further. is there a special trick for getting the torque tube and the rear axle housing separated. any suggestions would help.

It sounds like you are trying to remove the tube from the diff head? If so, from memory on doing this to my chevy, you need to take off the diff cover, undo some bolts, remove a spacer and a pin, pull the axles out a couple of inches, maybe not in that order, but something like that. Then you can separate the center torque tube from the rear housing. Read this section of the manual http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1949_53/04rear/4_01.HTM
