No real progress, work, school, and the family have ben taking up most of my time lately. And I'm still waiting on that cam. I did manage to re-arange the garage yesterday. Now both my Model A projects are side by side and much more accessible...

I swapped spots between the Phaeton and the Truck @rob-redm it's just out of frame to the left.

The Fuel block is the original Segal one, cleaned up and re-mounted.

I got my engine hoist back from the friend that was borrowing it, so once I get a spare hour or two, I'll be yanking the engine and tranny. It'll get a fresh '39 box with '41 guts, the Albro flywheel, and a new clutch n' pressure plate. Then plumbing, while I wait for that damn camshaft...

  5. Have you heard from them regarding the hold up on the cam..I feel your frustration regarding it..

    Well, the wait is over...
    image.jpeg

This little bump-stick was waiting on my porch today. New cam billet ground by Schneider Racing Cams of San Diego.

Potvin 400 "Climax" Advertized Duration: 284* Intake 284* Exhaust, Duration @ .050": 252* Intake 252* Exhaust, Lift: .400" Intake and Exhaust, Overlap: 52*, Lobe Separation: 113*

Should be a wicked little cam. The guys at Schneider were adamant that this is NOT a street cam, and said that this was the first new one of this grind that they had done in at least 30 years. The delay was claimed to be from a damaged master that had to be re-done.

Now there's no excuses but mine to get this little mill fired in anger...

Getting closer. The bottom end has been blown apart, and re-assembled...
    image.jpeg

And to replace the Coupster's original waterlogged '39 box, I pulled all the guts out of a '42 side-shift, and shoved them into a good '39 case...
    image.jpeg

    image.jpeg

Now I just gotta get the valve train built and installed, put together the top of the motor, get the clutch and pressure plate installed (I'm waiting on new bolts), marry the engine and tranny, and throw the whole mill back in between the frame rails. Then it's cam break-in time...

And I cleaned up the original Johnson lifters that came out of this block. They've never been run...

How is the hydraulic clutch leverage done in this? Does the gearbox have the rotative arm in it or a fork type arm? I'd like to see some pictures if it has rotative type arm..

  15. Wicked thread, thanks RainierHooker

It's all apart right now, but I'll try to explain, until I can get pictures...

It uses a 1932 lever-type clutch arm with a pushrod coming off of it and going strait back to the slave cylinder that is mounted on the transmission crossmember.

This picture showing the different clutch arms is from Van Pelt Sales:

More progress on the engine. The Schiefer AlBro flywheel is in and safetied...
    image.jpeg

    ARP studs...
    image.jpeg

Initial timing set at 24-degrees for the Harman Collins Mag...
    image.jpeg

    Copper Head Gaskets...
    image.jpeg

And where I got before my camera ran out of battery...
    image.jpeg

Bottom end is all together. Heads are on and torqued. Water pumps are back on and the Mag is mechanically timed. Just gotta throw the pan back on, mount the pressure plate, clutch, and tranny. And make one good starter out of these two...
    image.jpeg

...then we should be ready to make some noise.

Okay guys, sorry for the hiatus. Things got a little crazy over the last few months, but I'm happy to report that progress was and continues to be made on the coupester. And yes, noise has been made. Here's a catch-up post...

After my last post, I needed a few small bits in order to button up the transmission build. I ended up buying a package-deal of Early Ford transmissions and transmission parts...

...with all the parts, I buttoned up the tranny, bolted it to the motor and dropped it back in-between the frame rails

...and I spent the next few days' lunch-breaks in my work's sheetmetal shop turning an off-cut chunk of aluminum into a dash. The dimensions, layout, and shape are all the same as the original dry-rotted and rat-stained plywood panel, but spruced up just a smidge...

With the motor and transmission back in the car, we are definitely in the finishing touches mode. I took out my roll of NOS Packard 440 cable and Delco ignition components kit and made up some new old plug wires...

    IMG_1793.jpg

Then I started bolting the engine back to gather and getting a final mock up of the hoses and other plumbing...

    IMG_1801.jpg

Topped off the battery with electrons...

    IMG_1813.jpg

...and fired her up (movie forthcoming)

With the promised noise having been made, I set about finishing up plumbing the brakes and clutch...

    IMG_1841.jpg

    And finished off the seat...

So, thats got us pretty much caught up. Things left to do before her first trip around the block, in somewhat of an order:

    -Replace Rear Wheel Cylinders
    -Bleed Brakes and Clutch
    -Wire in Dash
    -Wire in Electric Fuel Pump
    -Re-Mount Radiator
-Finish and Mount New Tonneau Cover
    -Replace Wishbone Rod-Ends
    -Camshaft Break-In Run
    -Big Smokey Burn-Out

Once those things are completed, I will start thinking about finishing up the interior (door-panels etc.) and adding headlights, taillights, and fenders. I have a feeling that my winter plans are pretty much summed up there.
