Have any of you guy's Powder Coated your early Ford (I have 1940) brake drums? I thought it would be easier to maintain w powder coating but I'm not sure how they will dissipate heat if powder coating. Any of you guy's tried this?
I would not worry about it. I had brake fluid shrinkle up the powder coating on a backing plate once otherwise no problems.
I powder coat all the drums on my builds. I powder coat the entire drum and then take it to the local brake shop and they turn the coating off the braking surface. It takes a little extra effort but I think I get a better job.
We just put Painters Tape on the Brake Surface, and then Run them through the line with the rest of our parts. Works great.
And have the backing plates done at the same time. If you need to fill any 'pits', there are fillers that are designed for high heat.
Not a problem dissipating heat, the curing process subjects most parts to 200 degrees for anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. HRP
Thanks Much guy's, going to the brake shop this morning to get new linings matched to the drums and then off to the powder coaters.
