Since member racer-x will soon be filling Woodward Av with NITRO FUMES here it is in the "Old Days"

As many of you know Woodward boasted the first concrete paved portions of public road in the country. It started out as a path, and was eventually upgraded to logs, then planks were laid, and then concrete and eventually pavement.

The story of Woodward is in many ways the story of the car itself and the story of the Woodward Dream Cruise has definitely helped preserved a road that has been as decorated as a ribbon of pavement could be.

His lightweight, rear-engine Space-Age Road Agent, used a rear-mounted Corvair engine and ultra-light construction, you’ve gotta love those StarTrek pods on the sides….preceding the StarShip Enterprise.

Big Daddy, no Average Beatnik – demonstrated a Stroke of Pure Genius completely devoid of Modern Technology….i.e. arguably the first use of what we know as ‘RGB’ color in a non-printing application.

Jimmy Bryan in Doug Caruthers' Viking Trailer Special. He missed the show in his first attempt at Indianapolis. I wonder if the car just stopped on the track with mechanical problems or if Bryan spun it?

Thanks for the photos. I'll guarantee that the corner of Michigan and Woodward doesn't look like that today.
