Doug Engles ran the Joint Venture Corvette in Super Stock a few years ago. He made one of my favorites into a Best Appearing and best engineered car.
I remember the Kline car at Eddyville. I heard it was Larry Kopps former car. I know Bruce Wolfe and Gary Frier bought the Wayne County Vette. I couldn't believe seeing it at Eddyville after lusting after it in the magazines.

I believe Junior Stock and Modified Production were the two most popular classes ever for the NHRA

I had a friend of mine who ran C/MP with a 1963 Chevrolet Impala and one day he told me in 1964 he was going to flat tow his car from Connecticut to Indy for the Nationals with his old Buick Station wagon!

The Buick had seen it's better day's at the time and showed it's age.
I really thought it was a bad idea but he made it to Indy and back with no problems.
Those were the day's when not everyone could afford an open trailer.

Yep the days of removing the driveshaft or making some towing hubs or using a ramp truck were the norm for a long time. Then open trailers started showing up in the early 70's in my area didn't see any closed rigs like they have now until maybe the late 80's.

BUT anybody in those days that had a chance to compete in the Nationals would have done ANYTHING to get there that was the BIG LEAGUES.

Great pictures and info in this thread! Thanks all. 1 55c.jpg Back in 1970-72 , I owned a '55 2dr sedan, 396/425 4speed . It was a rust free southern car, and had fiberglass front fenders. It was raced a few times at LVD by a previous owner. I'm not sure which class it ran in. I mainly ran it on the street, usually from 6pm until 1am just about every night. Great memories !
