I'm really impressed. I'm sure you lined up those hinge barrels too?

I tried to line up everything... If not, I'll have a '54 no door!

Awesome metal work! It's cool watching how you overcome obstacles without becoming disheartened.

    Keep up the great work!

I'm still reading through this thread and I love customs and damn near every other type of build and style on the H.A.M.B. Love what you're doing and am following.

Got everything fully welded, except the areas I'm cutting out. Some pie cuts later, everything lined up like it was measured! Here's a photo that shows some of the pie cuts. 20170627_225012.jpg After everything was welded I started working on the main big hole in the firewall. Here you can see some clekos holding the sheet metal in place. Then I cut around the metal and used the butt clamps to hold everything in place. This was my first time trying this. It just made sense in my head. I liked it a lot better than cutting the metal out of your car, then making a template, then cutting it out of sheet metal, then grinding and grinding until it fits. 20170630_134801.jpg 20170630_134821.jpg Then I removed the clekos and clamps, and pulled the old metal out. This is the piece I cut away. 20170630_135640.jpg Then I put the new sheet metal back in, clamped it, and stated tacking. Made another filler piece for the weird hole on the passenger side, tacked that too. I always fully clamp everything, pie cuts and all before I tack weld anything. 20170630_155301.jpg 20170630_155328.jpg 20170630_155336.jpg Lots of welding and grinding left, but it's starting to look good! I never thought I'd be able to section a firewall 4 inches and then metal finish it... I honestly thought I'd be hiding everything with Bondo. I'm pretty proud.

Still needs a few days worth of work on the firewall itself then I can start to finish the passenger side. 4 inches gone! Here's some progress photos. 20170709_162401.jpg 20170709_162409.jpg 20170709_162426.jpg 20170709_163900.jpg

  26. Hell, that is so clean one wouldn't know it is missing those 4" of steel. Will be awesome to see your car parked beside a stock height one of the same model. I have a photo of a Ford Anglia that a ggod friend was building for his wife but sadly died of cancer before he finished it. It has a 3" roof chop and 2" sectioned out of the middle. The photo is it parked beside a stock height Anglia that is sitting on only rims on the front but one can appreciated the work that has happened to the car on the left. Mark' car No. 1[631].jpg

Today I stated cutting some of the ugly of the firewall. 20170712_134650.jpg 20170712_134655.jpg 20170712_141829.jpg 20170712_154002.jpg 20170712_162040.jpg Then these next holes had me confused for a bit. I didn't have much room to cut them out... So I started thinking a torch and dolly? 20170712_171123.jpg 20170712_171131.jpg Then I remembered my hole saw kit! And cut them all out. 20170712_173510.jpg Now I have 5 slightly bigger holes. But I'll work on those tomorrow. Soon the firewall will be nice and smooth. 20170712_173546.jpg
