Does anybody make a ring to hold thermostats in place at the water outlet on the heads of 59AB flatheads? Thanks, Andy
You can use a clunk of PVC pipe - held in place with a second hose clamp -- or a piece of stainless exhaust tubing (which is what I did on my last one).
Not to sound like an idiot, I've never worked on a flathead anything, all my flathead info comes from you guys!!, but does the thermostat just sit there and then the hose gets slid over it, no housing or anything? What keeps the thermostat from moving around if thats the case?
I think the original thermostat for a 59ab was tubular and fit hose tite..Thermostat in pic is later 8ba and just has a flange which fit the 8ba thermostat housing. Goeffrey's way is simple solution provided hole in water neck is decent size..
Go with Geoffrey's plan, copper wire. (or stainless) If the thermostat's O.D. is the same as the head's, the hose'll hold it... I did it this way in the old days, (1955 'til I 'outgrew' flatheads...around '62. Went HEMI. But Geoffrey's method removes any worry about them 'tipping', or moving. Thanks, Geoff...I'm back to building another .040" over 59AB! Using your 'wires'!
