Thanks guys. Ill try and keep the updates coming till its done. I think Ive promised that before tho, haha
I soooo want one of these. keep up the good work. I'll live vicariously for now. trying to stay focused on my avatar. Sent from my SM-G920R4 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yes! Lots of painting. In the middle of painting all the drivetrain and chassis bits. Time consuming and boring for pics. Ill put some up when I get a chance but not much to look at.
While were here may as well rebuild the box. Thanks to my pal Pineapple™ and Meteor Motors® for the expert tranny work. And thanks to our Koozie sponsor Ron Barbarino and the Iron Lords™®©.
A little mockabilly action to see how everything looks. Not completely sold on the Edmunds LEGO manifold anymore but we'll see how things shake out.
A lot of other OT stuff happened in between here and there but this catches us up on the worlds slowest 27 roadster build. Thanks to you guys for the support and inspiration over the years. Ill try and keep posting as we go.
We're relying on it, H.I.... As for intakes: My '27 tub's flathead was going to get the cheapie Offie intake (2 X 2, back to the rear...to accept my converted 6 volt '38 generator to 12 volt, with a cutout relay. (and a gen. mounted FAN!) Luckily, I found a mint NAVARRO, with carbs right over the ports. An elder gent had it under his bed since '52... But alas, now a side generator mount...and a bracket/idler for the fan. Engine is a 59AB, factory relief...so it's short in front, with '42 crab distributor. Meanwhile, waiting for news on the rest. Do you have the correct 2nd/3rd fork for the trans? (it's 3" wide, and has a slightly rearward position in neutral...so, widening (grinding) an earlier fork ('35-'38) won't work, it will push the sleeve too far into 3rd, and your synchros will fly out from under the sleeve. You probably knew this, but it is 'esoteric'...
Great up date. That's a lot of work. I like the Edmunds 2X2 gen up front manifold though my Edmunds heads already have fins removed for a side gen mount.
Yeah Alan, always lookin over my shoulder.. They are a lot more tame than the old days though. Good stories about the wild west and the coors compound from the old timers around golden.
Cheers to Pineapple for building a distrubutor, teaching me how to paint, moral support, and cheap beer.
looks great! I would be interested to learn more about your distributor? is that a chevy tach drive? im pretty sure this is the route im gonna have to go to to hook the tach up in my roadster
Yes sir it is. we machined the housing to 8ba spec. , annealed an 8ba drive gear, reamed it to the chevy shaft diameter, drilled it and the chevy shaft in the new position, re-hardened the gear, then put it all back together. This one is a mallory, and it has some adjustment in the breaker plate, so we set it up for around 16-18 degrees total advance. much more than that will hurt a flathead.
Thanks buddy! I did not, i never really thought about it. I made one for myself first, and was about to test it out on an engine I had on my run stand.. I ended up selling the engine before I could get it tested out. So honestly, we have not ran either one of these yet. Maybe once we haven proven one out I will do a build thread. As far as mechanical tach drives go, I am going to build a crank drive for a friends car that I am working on, it's a 59a flathead, the drive will be similar to the old stewart warner kind that used a short piece of speedo cable as a coupler. I will take lots of pics on that and do a build thread.. if it works of course. Thanks for the kind words.
