Butchcoat1969, you're right, and my previous comments were out of line. I'm sorry, it was inappropriate and rude. Back to car building...

Been busy doing other things, but a little bit here and there on the roadster. The w/s frame dragged the cowl, so that had to be fixed. The firewall is now ready for color, so that feels good. My deadline of the middle of August is drawing closer...

The 34 looks great Brian. Can't wait to see it in color.

Looking good! One thing I did this week was to put the cowl vent weather-strip in and set the height in my cowls bodywork to match so it looks tight and right when painted.

Stay with the updates. Looking forward to more.

Thanks guys. I have a steel original cowl vent I'd like to use, but the mounts for the glass one, and the hinge it's on, while they look identical, are a little "off", and the lid won't drop in the opening. Not worth the hours of work to make it fit, so the glass one stays. It fits good, so I'm not messing with it!

I've seen a few 'Glass '32-'34 projects abandoned, a couple of them came thru my shop (late '70s)
Your efforts on this project have been tireless, and everything is coming together with smooth results.
The Jag wire wheels raised an eyebrow, until I saw them.
As everybody keeps referring to 'In the Day', I have to say...I was there. Los Angeles to San Jose to Oakland.
Many winning show (and street) cars ran chrome wire wheels; Buick Skylarks, Packard, Chrysler, and T-Bird.
Painting yours will be right for you...but I'd have that 'damaged-chrome' one fixed, Man, those chrome wires are just the Cat's ASS!
-Just an old aged man's memories...and opinions. I pictured it in paint...Wow!

I just wanted to add a liitle to this statement about the rear end - 55 Chevy-ish.
Below is a car that was originally built by a Drylakes-BNI Racer in the late 60's-Early 70's.
in Yorba Linda area of "The OC". He's Butch Carlton, the 32 looked a little different previous to this mag feature in Nov 92. IMG_1444.JPG IMG_1447.JPG
IMG_1448.JPG IMG_1450.PNG This uses a 55-57 Chevy Rear End, the person listed in the feature drove it everywhere during his ownership of the chassis and had a couple hair raising experiences cruising out to Palm Springs during spring break, not because of the rear end though....
So through a chance HAMB AD looking, I bought this rolling chassis from the neighbor Mike Gamel sold it to, Mike Keaney. The chassis was definitely something that I felt I could use, didn't care about what was attached to the frame, really that was all I wanted. I bought it on site, got a tour of "Pop's Place"- Mike G's. Dad and Mike K's neighbor.

I saw this feature on the wall and Brian just like your 34 Roadster did to me back in the early 80's it was something that I remembered. Looked diffferent though in the feature, but I remembered seeing it in person.
It was the original builders choice of parts that made me take notice. Mind you, this car was built 48 years ago I think in this chassis configuration. It has gone all of those years with that 57 Chevy w/3:73's and continues to go under my roadsters body. I'm not exactly easy on a Hot Rod, so go figure? It's still racking up miles. Thanks Mike. I knew I wanted to use them, I had them before I got the car. Was going to build a Frank Mack style '27. I dig the rim lacing, they remind me of the MG wheels I had on our full fendered '27. I found some stuff called "Rub and Buff" at a hobby shop, a wax based paste, that makes the bad one look good from 5 feet away! I'm gonna run 'em "as is" for a while before I blast 'em!

Soon, very soon... Been a rough couple of weeks. My mom (who's 87) has been in hospital with severe chest pain, now home with hospice. It was good therapy yesterday to get out in the shop and paint firewall, I LOVE the ivory color, and have enough left to paint the T'bird steering wheel. This afternoon the engine is going in to stay, and then on to fuel lines, brake lines, a driveshaft and wiring. I want it to be a driver in a month and half to get to the Relix Riot. It is on... 18953036_10213908434047622_2028720128859363325_n.jpg 19029554_10213908434287628_1260299499538671806_n.jpg

The 283 is in to stay, although I opted (for now) to leave the single 4-bbl intake on it. I figured since I didn't get around to getting a points dizzy, I'll leave things alone for now, put one of the 500 CFM E-carbs on it and get some seat time before I tackle trying to sort out 2-4's on a 283. I included a shot of the right front wheel, which had a couple big chunks of chrome blow off around the spoke nipples when mounting the front tire, which I "fixed" with some stuff called "Rub and Buff". It's sold in hobby shops, some metallic powder in a a waxy base meant to imitate silver leaf. Any closer than 5 feet one can tell it's not chrome, but beyond that, it's a nice temporary solution. Probably a new wheel from Dayton is in the cards, but this'll do for now! 19145877_10213921021362297_6722802847036793235_n.jpg 19105601_10213921021602303_8027267213269612960_n.jpg 18952948_10213921022242319_1309132518321162716_n.jpg

I lived the days of the 55-62 or so Chevy rear ends and almost all of the cars I was around were lite in weight no one in our group carried any extra pigs with us. They were weak in the axle department and we cured this by putting in Olds and Mopar axles. If I were building today I,d use one.

Hahaha, and fingerprints in the (almost) dry paint! I ALWAYS did that... A guy on a FB hot rod page asked me if it was a model car, which, I count as success because the goal is to have look like it a giant model car.

A fiberglass car is sorta like a model car. At least the Factory Five Roadster I built was....but most of it came in a box like the model cars.

And here we have a transmission tunnel, built in the traditional method, using a cardboard shipping tube, and some scraps of corrugated cardboard. As was done "back in the day", this will have the seams glassed with some resin and mat to stiffen it so it can be removed, the underside will get a couple layers of mat, then flipped over and the topside glassed likewise. A few sheet metal screws and some fender washers, a coat of black Krylon and viola, a removable trans tunnel. Just like they used to do. ;-)

That's my goal, but I'm gonna be right up against it. Summer is here, it seems I don't make time for the roadster project like I thought I would...

Thanks! I don't know if I've told you, but that Chevy convertible is one of the cars that really made an impression on me when we were just getting involved with Street Rods. Our '48 Pontiac convertible now lives in Muskegon, we passed it on to some friends a couple years ago. Its still wearing the paint I laid down in the late 70's. I bought the roadster with some of the $$ from that Car. If you see Brandon and Liz in town in it, give 'em a wave!
