hi everyone , I have a question ,I have been working on my 1930 modal a 2 tudor ,and I'm ready for a motor , well I came across this 455 buick engine ,and its a really decent engine I would like to use this in my A ,has anyone done this ? and would anyone have photo's , thanks guys
I know C9 (Jay Carnine) had a Buick engine in his '32. He's not with us anymore but I'm sure a search for his posts will lead you in the right direction. He made many posts on this site over the years, most of them were of a technical nature, we were all sadden by his passing.
All I know is, they are torque monsters. If I had one, it wouldn't matter to me if someone had done it before, I'd just do it and enjoy the journey.
Yeah, I remember how they would haul a full-sized Buick around, one wouldn't have to do much hot rodding to make them lots of fun in a model A. They aren't all that much bigger than a SBC, and they use the standard BOP bell housing so choice of trannies should be easy.
Front mount dist. makes it easier . Front mount oil pump makes it harder, Motor's are fairly light for the cubes. Big time torque monster's. B.O.P. transmissions fit.
I put a 455 in my '35 International pickup with a turbo 400. Like mentioned you will need to use a short oil filter to clear the frame I think. Also had Noxious Customs cut me a set of flanges so I could build roadster style headers. They like a big carb like an 850 but make loads of torque. Go for it.
soon as get I get caught up I'm going to pull the old engine as start with the buick see where it takes me
