Okay, have the back bolts taken off the bracket the holds the H-Box but not understanding how the box comes off.. does it slide all the way down off the shaft? If so, I think my external oil line is going to be in the way.... Neither of my manuals are showing this too well. :(

Look on top of the mast jacket - should be a coupler in there ...

The whole box is supposed to be out, in your hands ... like, loose ...

That would not make a difference though, I'm trying to get that bar off the shaft so I can drill a new hole. If I remove the bottom portion of the box I'm still in the same situation.

OK .. look inside the truck, up by the floorboard. Isn't there a coupler there to separate the shaft coming from the H-box to the column shift control ?

Outstanding ... now file the face of the end round & clean up the tool marks. Leaving it like that is bordering on R** R** workmanship.

Thanks for the help everyone!! Just waiting for the new bushings to arrive for the lower arm on Tuesday and she will be set.

I will consider thread closed and appreciate everybody's input.

  13. got to this a little late, but in my situation I zig-zagged the bracket towards the firewall, which effectively shorten the arm and gives more clearance along with switching the rod from the back to the front to free up space at the firewall. Two different ways to skin the same cat.

Just saw this. I not only brought my shift lever closer as you did but shortened the throw of the 3 spd plus overdrive arms at the transmission.

I've got to say how disappointed I am in the guys that said 'Floor Shift'.

I have the shortest throw, tightest 3 on the tree going. A real pleasure to drive.

  15. You have a 261, but you have this 261 in what year and make of truck ?
Didn't see your specific truck info on page 1, page 2 or 3.
I have not seen such a deliberate interference of manifold to shifter.

    Don't know what year 261 but it's in a 3100 51 truck.

Not complaining, but were you driving the truck with no bushings in your linkage like your photos shows? Boy that must have been one sloppy shifting pick-up. The shift arms were lucky to the get the trans side cover into the detents to hold it in gear. Have fun with your conversion.
