Some mechanized madness from Boris Artzybasheff...

 

What a fantastic thread. Could look at this stuff all year long. If you lived in war ravaged Europe still in the grip of austerity, seeing wide open freeways, fantastic cars and a lifestyle that could only be dreamed of, the mecca beckoned. Clever artistry sold power, gleam and everyone can have a perfect lifestyle. If you have ever read about Art Fitzpatrick and Van Kaufman, who painted a lot of the Pontiac adverts, he said they had to battle to keep the ads hand painted rather than just a photo and wording proclaiming cubic inches and horsepower. He said people weren't interested in numbers, they wanted glamour, a dream that they could see themselves living. Thank God he won. I don't think they painted this picture, but nothing illustrates their idea than this. From the fantastic car to the white tuxedo's signifying success to the party at the space age beach house the whole thing is just poetry.

I like yourself and many others are in awe of the quality and almost custom fantasy worlds created by the artists of the past.

I feel many were years ahead of time in their thinking. I often wonder if someone has photoshopped the graphic but feel that is generally not the case.

Yes Steffen this is one cool looking Desoto...​

 

I love these too. My grandfather did a few of these adds for Pontiac. My father has one hanging up in his office in Florida. I'll snap a pic next time I'm there.
