    T-Rex - Jeepster

    T. REX LYRICS
    "Jeepster"

    You're so sweet
    You're so fine
I want you all and everything
    Just to be mine

    'Cos you're my baby
    'Cos you're my love
    Girl I'm just a Jeepster
    For you love

    You slide so good
    With bones so fair
    You've got the universe
    Reclining in your hair

    Just like a car
    You're pleasing to behold
    I'll call you Jaguar
If I may be so bold

    The wild winds blow
    Upon your frozen cheeks
The way you flip your hip
    It always makes me weak

    Your motivation
    Is so sweet
    Your vibrations
    Are burning up my feet

    Girl I'm just a jeepster
    For your love
    Girl I'm just a vampire
    For your love

    I'm gonna suck you.

Good to see "Copperhead Road" and "Thousand Dollar Car" get mentioned in here my top two faves are "Cadillac Ranch" by Springsteen and this one, Written by David Wilcox back in the late 80s when there were still plenty of old cars for sale by the side of the road, the song is called "Rusty old American dream"---

I don't look all that ragged for all the time it's been,
But I'm weakened underneath me where my frame is rusted thin.
And this year's state inspection just barely passed
Won't you drive me 'cross the country, boy,
This year could be my last.

I'm a tailfin road locomotive from the days of cheap gasoline,
And I'm for sale by the side of the road going nowhere,
    A rusty old American dream.

I rolled off the line in Detroit back in 1958,
Spent three days in the showroom, that's all I had to wait.
    I've been good to all who owned me, so have no fear;
C'mon, boy, put your money down and get me out of here!

I'm a tailfin road locomotive from the days of cheap gasoline,
And I'm for sale by the side of the road going nowhere,
    A rusty old American dream.

This car needs a young man to own him
One who will polish the chrome,
I will give you the rest of my lifetime,
But don't let me die here alone.
Just jump me some juice to my battery,
Give that old starter a spin,
Hear me whir, sputter, backfire through the carberator,
And roar into life once again.

    I'm a tailfin road locomotive,
You can polish my chrome so clean
We can fly off into the sunset together,
    A rusty old American dream.

Neil Young & the Shocking Pinks

    NEIL YOUNG LYRICS
    "Cry, Cry, Cry"

Cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry,
Cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry,
Cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry.

Well, old man river just keeps on rollin'
    On down the line
Like my tears just keep on flowin'
    All the time
    Can't you hear me cry.

Cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry,
Cry, cry, cry, cry, cry, cry,
    Cry, cry, cry, cry.

Well, somewhere there's a rainbow for me,
    I know it's my time
    I am getting so tired
    Of standing in this light
    Can't you hear me cry.

Boo, hoo, hoo, boo, hoo, hoo,
Boo, hoo, hoo, boo, boo, hoo,
Boo, hoo, hoo, cry, cry, cry.

Boo, hoo, hoo, boo, hoo, hoo,
    Cry, cry, cry, cry.

    Hello,

Over the many years of hot rods and music, there have been so many songs that created a lifestyle moment for everyone. The refining moment for us was the late 60’s and early 70’s.

There are too many songs with the car influences in the lyrics, but these are the ones that we listened to driving all up and down the coast to those hot rod events and shows.

This song that is the epitome of the violent time period of 1968. But, while driving, it made one think that the world was still going to be ok for the future of the young 20 somethings.
    Steppenwolf: Magic Carpet Ride:

Why don’t you come with me little girl,
    On a magic carpet ride,
You don’t know what we can see,
Why don’t you tell your dreams to me,
    Fantasy will set you free.

    ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER
    JIMI HENDRIX 1968
    All along the watchtower
    Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
    Barefoot servants, too
    Outside in the cold distance
    A wildcat did grow
    Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl, hey

So, skip to 1975: Slowride by Foghat. It may not be “car wordy,” but cruising down the street with this song playing on the tape cassette over and over made the ride more enjoyable… The guitar sounds just made you want to move your head back and forth. Highway 395 and Highway 1 (coastal route) up to Northern California was certainly more fun with this song playing. My wife could not take her hands off of the steering wheel without bopping it on the wheel in time with the rocking out music.
    Slow Ride by Foghat:

    Slow ride, take it easy
    I'm in the mood
    The rhythm is right
    Move to the music
    We can roll all night

    Sweet Emotion: Aerosmith 1975
I pulled into town in a police car
Your daddy said I took it just a little too far.
You’re telling other things, but your girlfriend lied,
You can’t catch me ‘cause the rabbit done died.
    Yes it did.

But, 12 years later in 1987, a song stuck out in our lives that I am sure hit home to everyone…reminds me of childhood memories…hot rods, cruising, friendships, family, etc…As well as a rocking out song that defines those important memories going down the road.
Sweet Child Of Mine: Guns and Roses
She’s got a smile that it seems to me,
    Reminds me of childhood memories
    Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky…

    Jnaki

Normally we don’t like cover songs, but recently, this song was instrumental to a fabulous movie: Captain Fantastic.

    Remember your rides...

    The King of Saturday Night

    Words & Music
    Dan Penn & Charlie Taylor

IN ’61 I BUILT MY MASTERPIECE

FROM A ’50 MERC SOME BOLTS AND GREASE
FUZZY DICE AND A LOUVERED HOOD
WITH A FULL RACE FORD, SHE SURE RAN GOOD
SHE WAS SCULPTURED STEEL AND SEX APPEAL
AND A LIGHTING ROD FOR TROUBLE
    FUELED BY PILLS AND ALCOHOL,

SHE WAS DRIVEN BY A REBEL

    CHORUS

I WAS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT
MY ENGINE WAILED WHEN I PULLED TO THE LIGHT
I WAS LOVED BY EVERY WOMAN IN SIGHT
WHEN I WAS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT

THEN A DRUGSTORE COWBOY PULLED INTO TOWN
IN A SILVER CHEVY, WITH THE TOP PULLED DOWN
HE FOUND ME PARKED ON THE COURTHOUSE SQUARE
MY REPUTATION HAD BROUGHT HIM THERE
AT THE STROKE OF 12 SITTING SIDE BY SIDE
I JUMPED THE CHEVY OFF THE STARTING LINE
THE CHEVY SWERVED, HE CRASHED AND BURNED
I NEVER LOOKED BACK AND I NEVER RETURNED

WHERE IS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT
HIS ENGINE WAILED WHEN HE PULLED TO THE LIGHT
THE STREETS ARE EMPTY NOW HE’S NOWHERE IN SIGHT
WHERE IS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT

ON A RAM SHACKLED FARM OFF STATE 42
THERE’S A LEAKY OLD BARN OUTLINED BY THE MOON
HER SILHOUETTE SETS WITH TORN TUCK AND ROLL
HIDDEN FOR YEARS FROM THE HIGHWAY PATROL
THOUGH HER HEADLIGHTS ARE BROKEN A SKILLED PAIR OF HANDS
COULD TUNE HER UP AND GET HER RACING AGAIN
IF YOU TORQUE HER DOWN AND DRIVE HER JUST RIGHT
YOU COULD STILL BE THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT

I WAS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT
MY ENGINE WAILED, WHEN I PULLED TO THE LIGHT
I WAS LOVED BY EVERY WOMAN IN SIGHT
WHEN I WAS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT

    FADE:
I WAS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT
I WAS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT
I WAS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT
I WAS THE KING OF SATURDAY NIGHT
    (REPEAT TO FADE)

    Hello,

Today, most of us either have a child or grandchild. So, speaking about music to drive to or favorite song lyrics: If you have a fun drive in your hot rod/wagon with a child all buckled into place, here is the one that makes everyone want to get out and dance… At least bob your head and keep time to the fun song.

    “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.
It might seem crazy what I am about to say
Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break
I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space
With the air, like I don’t care, baby, by the way
    Because I’m happy…
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you want to do…

    Jnaki

Try to drive down a street with a child in the back and this song playing on the stereo…Not a chance in the world you will not bob your head to the music… Then you will want to watch the “Minions.”

    You take the dog
    I'll take the Galaxy 500
    You get the cat
I get the cats you don't want anymore

    You take the fish
    I'll take the bowl
    You take the dishes
While you're at it take my soul
    But things ain't so bad
    Cause i got a galaxy 500

    You get the house
I get a cheap motel room
    You get a friend
But that should not matter to me anymore
You have a date he's just a friend
I can't believe that this is the end
    But things aint so bad
    Cause I got a Galaxy 500
    Galaxy 500 in a Galaxy 500
    Galaxy 500

I'm in my own galaxy 1973
    In my own galaxy
You probably would have wanted this too
    But it's not air conditioned
    No it's not air conditioned
    No it's not air conditioned
    No it's not air conditioned
    It's not air conditioned

    She came from Planet Claire
I knew she came from there
    She drove a Plymouth Satellite
A-faster than the speed of light

    Planet Claire has pink air
    All the trees are red
    No one ever dies there
    No one has a head

    Some say she's from Mars
Or one of the seven stars that shine after three-thirty in the morning
    Well, she isn't!

    She came from Planet Claire
    She came from Planet Claire

    She came from Planet Claire

    Surf City

    Two girls for every boy
I bought a '30 Ford wagon and we call it a woodie
    (Surf City, here we come)
You know it's not very cherry, it's an oldie but a goody
    (Surf City, here we come)
Well, it ain't got a back seat or a rear window
But it still gets me where I wanna go
And we're goin' to Surf City, cause it's two to one
You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, cause it's two to one
You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun, now
    Two girls for every boy
You see they never roll the streets up cause there's always somethin' goin'
    (Surf City, here we come)
You know they're either out surfin' or they got a party growin'
    (Surf City, here we come)
Well, with two swingin' honeys for every guy
And all you gotta do is just wink your eye
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, cause it's two to one
You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, cause it's two to one
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun, now
    Two girls for every boy
And if my woody breaks down on me somewhere on the surf route
    (Surf City, here we come)
I'll strap my board to my back and hitch a ride in my wetsuit
    (Surf City, here we come)
And when I get to Surf City I'll be shootin' the curl
And checkin' out the parties for a surfer girl
And we're goin' to Surf City, cause it's two to one
You know we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, cause it's two to one
Ya, we're goin' to Surf City, gonna have some fun, now
    Two girls for every
    Two girls for every boy

  22. "Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy)"

Oh Rapid Roy that stock car boy
    He too much too believe
You know he always got an extra pack of cigarettes
Rolled up in his t-shirt sleeve
He got a tattoo on his arm that say "baby"
He got another one that just say "hey"
But every sunday afternoon he is a dirt track demon
    In a '57 Chevrolet

Oh Rapid Roy that stock car boy
He's the best driver in the land
He say that he learned to race a stock car
    By runnin' shine outta Alabam'
    Oh the demolition derby
    And the figure eight
Is easy money in the bank
Compared to runnin' from the man
    In Oklahoma City
    With a 500 gallon tank

Oh Rapid Roy that stock car boy
    He too much too believe
You know he always got an extra pack of cigarettes
Rolled up in his t-shirt sleeve
He got a tattoo on his arm that say "baby"
He got another one that just say "hey"
But every Sunday afternoon he is a dirt track demon
    In a '57 Chevrolet

Yeah, Roy's so cool, that racin fool
He don't know what fear's about.
He do a hundred thirty mile an hour, smilin at the camera
With a tooth pick in his mouth.
He got a girl back home, name of Dixie Dawn
But he got honeys all along the way
And you oughta hear 'em screamin for that dirt track demon
    in a '57 Chevrolet.

Oh Rapid Roy that stock car boy
    He too much too believe
You know he always got an extra pack of cigarettes
Rolled up in his t-shirt sleeve
He got a tattoo on his arm that say "baby"
He got another one that just say "hey"
But every sunday afternoon he is a dirt track demon
    In a '57 Chevrolet

  23. Robert Mitchum – The Ballad Of Thunder Road Lyrics
    Let me tell the story, I can tell it all;
About the mountain boy who ran illegal alcohol.
    His daddy made the whiskey, the son he drove the load;
And when his engine roared they called the highway "Thunder Road".

Sometimes into Ashville, sometimes Memphis town.
The Revenuers chased him but they couldn't run him down.
Each time they thought they had him his engine would explode.
He'd go by like they were standing still on "Thunder Road".

And there was thunder, thunder over "Thunder Road",
Thunder was his engine and white lightening was his load.
And there was moonshine, moonshine to quench the devil's thirst.
The law they swore they'd get him but the devil got him first.

It was on the first of April, Nineteen-Fifty-Four
The federal man sent word he'd better make his run no more.
    He said "200 agents were covering the state;
Which ever road he tried to take they'd get him sure as fate."

'Son' his daddy told him, 'make this run your last.
The tank is filled with 100 proof; you're all tuned-up and gassed.
Now don't take any chances, if you can't get through.
I'd rather have you back again than all that Mountain Dew.'

And there was thunder, thunder over "Thunder Road",
Thunder was his engine and white lightening was his load.
And there was moonshine, moonshine to quench the devil's thirst.
The law they swore they'ed get him but the devil got him first.

Roaring out of Harlan; revving up his mill.
He shot the Gap at Cumberland and streamed by Maynardville.
With G men on his tail light; road block up ahead,
The mountain boy took roads that even angels fear to tread.

Blazing right through Knoxville, out on Kingston Pike,
Then right outside of Bearden, they made the fatal strike.
He left the road at 90; that's all there is to say,
The devil got the moonshine and the mountain boy that day.

And there was thunder, thunder over "Thunder Road",
Thunder was his engine and white lightening was his load.
And there was moonshine, moonshine to quench the devil's thirst.
The law they never got him 'cause the devil got him first.

"Bitchin' Camaro" - The Dead Milkmen

My folks bought me a bitchin' Camaro
    With no insurance to match
So if I happen to run you down
    Please don't leave a scratch

I ran over some old lady
One night at the county fair
    And I didn't get arrested
    Because my dad's the mayor

    Bitchin' Camaro, bitchin' Camaro!
    Donuts on your lawn
    Bitchin' Camaro, bitchin' Camaro!
    Tony Orlando and Dawn

When I drive past the kids
    They all spit and cuss
Cause I've got a bitchin' Camaro
And they have to ride the bus

So you'd better get out of my way
When I come through your yard
Cause I've got a bitchin' Camaro
    And an Exxon credit card

    Almost forgot about this one

    Dodge Swinger 1973, Galaxy 500,
All the way stars' green, gotta go.
Dodge Swinger 1973, top down, chassis low,
Panel dim, light drive, Jesus on the dashboard.
T-minus whenever it feels right, Galaxy 500.
Planets align, a king is born.
    Whenever it feels right
    Whenever it feels right
    Whenever it feels right
    Whenever it feels right
Dodge Swinger 1973, top down, chassis free,
Buzz Aldrin, Armstrong, or maybe just me.
    Don't worry, it's coming.
    Don't worry, it's coming.
    Jesus on the dashboard.
    Whenever it feels right
    Whenever it feels right
    Whenever it feels right
    I turn on the radio.
Hey kid, are you going my way?
Hop in, we'll have ourselves a field day.
    We'll find us some spacegrass,
Lay low, watch the universe expand.
    Skyway, permanent Saturday.
Oh, by the way, Saturn is my rotary.
    Hop in, it'll be eternity
Till we make it to M83.
Once around the Sun, cruising, climbing.
Jupiter cyclops winks at me, yeah, he knows who's driving.
Hit neutral in the tail of a comet.
Let the vortex pull my weight.
Push the seat back a little lower.
Watch light bend in the blower.
    Planets align.
    A king is born.
    Dodge Swinger.
    Jesus on the dashboard.
    Whenever it feels right
    Whenever it feels right
    Whenever it feels right
    Whenever it feels right

  27. Stickshifts and safetybelts,
Bucket seats have all got to go.
When we're driving in the car,
It makes my baby seem so far.
I need you here with me,
Not way over in a bucket seat.
I need you to be here with me,
Not way over in a bucket seat.
But when we're driving in my Malibu,
It's easy to get right next to you.
I say, "Baby, scoot over, please."
And then she's right there next to me.
I need you here with me,
Not way over in a bucket seat.
I need you to be here with me,
Not way over in a bucket seat.

Being both a music and car nut this is my kind of thread! There's really to many to name, but one of my favorites would have to be "You Can't Catch Me" by Chuck Berry.

"Now you can't catch me, baby you can't catch me 'cause if you get too close, you know I'm gone like a cool breeze"
