I did go with the MarK bed kit mainly because my local hot rod parts store could get it in for me. The quality is awesome. Its made from original gauge steel and it not only fits together nice but the mounting holes line up perfectly with the holes in my frame. Like it was made to fit or something. The kit was missing a bag of bolts so I had to run out and gather those but otherwise it was flawless. I also am adding inner wheel tubs inside the bed because it wouldn't fit over the tires. I'm making those out of a steel trailer fender as they only need to be 3 inches wide. One fender cut in half should do it.

So I haven't been idle over the past little while. First off I had to fit the bed sides down over the rear tires and fabricate inner wheel tubs out of a trailer fender. Then I built this sheet metal brake in order to fabricate the step piece that fills the gap between the running board and the bed you can see in the picture as well as a rear roll pan and some skirting behind the rear fenders.

Just finished sandblasting the whole truck. Still have to finish fabricating the inner doors. That should be the last of the fabrication and then on to paint and body work. Frame is final welded and painted and is outside while I finish up the metal work on the body.

Here's a shot of the sandblasted parts and the bench seat that I made. Not quite finished yet.

Have most of the truck in epoxy and high build primer now. Still fabricating the inner door structure after ripping out all of the old wood.

"Final assembly" has a nice ring to it.

Thanks flow. Are you trying to jinx me with your quotes around "final assembly"? After countless times putting it together and taking it apart I hope this is the last time.

Here's a YouTube video of my first ever engine fire up on the 34. Since the engine came out of a running vehicle it started pretty easy. Just dribbled a little fuel down its throat and turned the key. Haven't driven it yet.

A great moment for sure on the first start up. How long since it last ran?

It ran about 5 years ago. Did an oil and filter change, put in a pertronix ignition, new fuel pump, and put the triple Rochester intake on. Otherwise it's untouched.

Here's a shot of the truck following a weekend of long hours in the shop. Still having some issues that kept it on jack stands. Two of the three carbs are leaking after multiple float adjustments. Not too sure what's going on there but will look at it again. And the steering column doesn't fit very well. I'm thinking that when I took the column out to finish welding the floor mount I must have altered the alignment because now nothing lines up. Fun stuff.

I tried to upload a video of my first drive but the file is too big. On YouTube look for "my first drive ever in my 34 Chevy."

Thanks so much. I know you know what it feels like but I had so much fun on the maiden voyage. That truck hasn’t been registered as far back as 1970. That’s as far as they searched. I’m still smiling.
