Thanks they were a leather belt in a former life! Yes the posts are on the inside. Wired to a hidden kill switch and the remote solenoid so I didn't figure I needed much access I'm hoping I can boost off the solenoid if necessary.

And due to limited space a thrift store briefcase will have to be my tool box. I figure the likely hood of a breakdown on something I built is pretty high!

Yes I do like the extremely sophisticated security system! I was hoping to secure a briefcase made of actual leather. This sweet 70's era collector item is however wrapped in pure Naugahyde!

    Wiring is done.

50' of wire loom, boxes of connectors, hundreds of twist ties, and countless trips to Autoparts store later!

Signal lights blink, headlights turn on. Not sure if it will turn over yet but fingers crossed all good?!

I've got some wood panels and braces I'm putting back in and looking to keep it pretty natural. I was looking at spar varnish as being pretty durable as a marine grade sealer. Hoping that will give me the best protection/ longevity.

66miles99, I replaced all of the wood in our '31 Pontiac, and upon the recommendation of a wooden boat restorer, used a 2-part clear epoxy to coat all of the wood to seal it and hopefully weatherproof it. Once the car is together, I had no access to recoat the wood as needed sometimes with varnishes.

I was looking at those 2 part coatings. It's always hard to tell from the reviews what actually works better and what's marketing! Good to hear an actual user have success.

Been trouble shooting and getting ready to break in the cam but I ran into an issue. Slow parasitic drain on the battery? I've double and triple checked everything and I can't seem to find it yet! It's a bit frustrating really. I've isolated circuits pulled all the fuses 1 by 1, disconnected the alternator, still a draw. I figure there's a grounded wire somewhere just haven't found it yet!

...Rebuilt alternator was the culprit! I thought I had ruled it out.

Ya so electrical gremlins still persisting, at least the guys from ez wiring are more than willing to help troubleshoot over the phone. The alternator was bench tested and is (according to the trusted professionals) not the problem! I only have six circuits so this shouldn't be that hard to resolve.....you would think.

  18. I had an off topic vehicle a few years ago that was having charging issues. The alternator tested fine on the bench but on the truck, getting bounced around, it did not. Can you have it tested on the car?

After over a week and a handful of calls to EZ wiring tech I have it solved. Basically it was a misunderstanding on how the exciter wire tied into the external regulator. Sometimes you get conflicting info from the net! Who knew!? I was going to upgrade the alternator to get rid of an external regulator all together and didn't which was a mistake.

I've listened to the video a couple of times and it leaves you with the impression you could still hear someone talking next to the car....you can't!

I freaked out a bit when I drained the oil. Looked an awful lot like metal filings in the pan. As it turns the magnet only grabbed a few tiny little fragments. Apparently what I saw was the compound from the cam lube from installation, has a metal flake look to it. Can't tell you how relieved I was when I read that!!
