Was fun checking out this old thread. Glad to see the talents are still alive, great work.
A pretty crappy quite old picture of a friend's 69 Camaro. First the car was painted, then added lettering.

 

Did this last week, made the Logo, did the rust and Patina

From all of the model cars in my drawer, I just happen to see a live one on a HAMB thread. With a few simple mods, the little car will look like the big brother... or another F100 that I liked from the 50's. (that will take some memory and modifying)

People could not help but to be forced to hear it a bunch of times. It was certainly not one of my favorites from that time period. It was popular...a one hit wonder...

"867-5309/Jenny" is a 1981 song written by Alex Call and Jim Keller and performed by Tommy Tutone that was released on the album Tommy Tutone 2, on the Columbia Records label. It peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #16 on the Billboard Top Tracks chart in May 1982 (see 1982 in music).[2]

The song caused a fad of people dialing 867-5309 and asking for "Jenny"

Here some door lettering from Germany

 

Picked up an extra rear door for my 46 Ford Sedan Delivery from Michigan and there was a couple of letter's showing thru old repaint so I did some buffing and rubbing and this what was under it.

 

My 31 tudor had some graphics on the doors but it's faded so much you can only make it out in the direct sunlight at the correct angles.
Would really like to be able to make it out fully. It appears to be a sailing ship with writing above it but can't make it out well enough to say for sure what it says.

Anyone know of a trick to make it become more visible?

 

This was a quickie project last week. The vehicle(a 1933 Chevrolet fire truck)had seriously deteriorated painted(cracking and crazing everywhere)and the lettering on the side boards had been painted over many years ago but was still barely visible.
The owner wanted me to trace over the original lettering and paint it with 1-Shot metallic gold paint rather than gold leaf.He then wanted it "antiqued" to match the original finish but not have it appear that it had been recently done.
Didn't know whether my usual technique would work but figured to give it a try. Had to do it outside as the truck wouldn't fit in my shop and leave me room to work on it. There was a pretty stiff breeze blowing for most of the time I was working on it and it even started to rain about half way through. I just kept painting;figuring it might add to the realism.
Traced over as much of the letters I could see with a Stabilo and broke out the gold metallic and a French gray quill.Had to stir the gold quite a bit but the coverage was great and it even seeped into the little divots in the base paint.
As the gold dries fairly rapidly I immediately started the black outlines as soon as I finished the gold.I deliberately didn't try to be super precise as the original lettering wasn't perfect.
The next day I came out and started scrubbing the letters using a brown scuff pad with some windshield washer solvent sprayed on;wiping it down with a dry cloth periodically to check how much material was being removed.
When I was satisfied,I gave the entire surface of the boards a light scrubbing to equalize the finish. Notice how much the gold paint resembles actual gold leaf before the scrubbing.

Good to see you're still pushing paint around with dead squirrel parts tied to a stick. Hadn't seen any posts from you lately. That made a great looking "rainy day" project.

As far as deliberately trying to not be super precise... Hell, all my lettering tends to look that way!

Here are a couple from the past few months.The Blackman Township Fire Dept truck was done in 1-Shot Metallic Gold;Black;and White. The Spoke Life Cycles truck in 1-Shot Black and Red. The Motor City Flathead logo done in 1-Shot Bright Red and Maroon. The Shadow Rods logo in 1-Shot White;Medium Gray;and Black. The Tecumseh Trade Center logo in 1-Shot Ivory and Bright Red with dinosaur skeleton in black.

Really busy at the shop this year, and even got to knock out a few more retro lettering jobs. (really Love doing these!!)

 

My model a drag car in 1967. My friend who lettered it spelled Aggravation wrong. My current drag car. Both hand lettered, no vinyl .
