My sleeper looks stock but has a 393w stroker with roush racing iron heads and a solid lifter cam. Built high stall c4 auto and n-case limited slip 9" rear.

  2. My mom grew up in Chowchilla. Probably a couple of years before you did. :D

  3. My brother had this ratty '64 GMC 1-ton step side pick up. He ran it with the SM420 and I believe a 3.73 rear. He was known for grenading a SBC here and there. Then he stumbles upon a Corvette 327 that was plenty strong. I was with him one night when he dusted off a nice '68 GTO with little effort. The truck had no tach but he had no fear to wind it up tight.

latest motor.JPG SHEEIITTTTT, here is the ULTIMATE sleeper....looks fast as hell...but, tops out at about 60 mph and takes about 45 secs. to get there. I can cut ET down to about 30 secs if I "speed shift" and grind the gears when shifting. That's right...that much acceleration just scares the shit right outta me, but heck, always been abit of a daredevil.

BUT, that setup in the FOUR DOOR FAIRLANE, would be the REAL SLEEPER, as opposed to the screaming yellow zonker. Plain Jane, nondescript, speak softly and carry big stick, who would have thunk, shocker! That's what a sleeper is. The sleeper I'm building is OT, but not by much, very low mileage, stock white paint and blue bench seat interior, 4 door sedan, poverty caps, 468 roller cammed BBC/TH400/4.10 Posi 12 bolt, and that's just the foundation. My "old man" car. I have a couple of "Student Driver" magnetic decals for the rear bumper from one of the local driver training schools. It'll double as a Sportsman Bracket Car. Just something to scare the women and children, make the teens drop their Teen Spirit while driving their tunermobile with the f*rtcan exhaust (I HATE those things!), and won't garner a second look from Uncle LEO. I don't expect it to beat a Hellcat Challenger. Sort of Farm Truck meets Grandpa's basic transportation. Years ago, there was a guy with a white, 4 door, 62 Dodge Dart; it even had a receiver type trailer hitch, and he raced it in Pro Bracket at Bremerton Raceway. He was local to me, and he'd drive around town on nice days. He eventually took it completely off the track, and it was his street car (SLEEPER). 440 motor with a typewriter shifter on the dash; there's something about a MOPAR exhaust tone, even when all muffled down. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

  9. That is pretty much the formula. A sleeper is a car that cannot be fast, or at least shouldn't be.

Like the more door dart with the 426 hemi in it that Coletti had for sale in Hillsboro in the early '70s. That car was a pure grocery getter or at least looked like one. Another good one would be say a '59 Thames Freighter with a mid mounted DZ 302. Cars and trucks that absolutely defy logic.

Other ride is 64 Malibu, bench seat, underdash gauges, original style exhaust. Only hint is the 7" rally wheels. Running a 406 SBC, L79, World heads, Holley, headers, and a hi-stall modified 700R4. Racked up 58000 miles on this rig. IMG_1312.JPG IMG_1313.JPG

I had a 60 chevy with a 380 HP 409. It had a column shifted close ratio three speed. It was a true 13.80 car with street tires and mufflers.
When I raced it on Saturday night it had Bucron tires and open "dumps"no air cleaner, and a generator cut-out. Probably 13.60 in that trim!

Falcon George's profile pics etc don't say banned any more. But I don't think he will be back. He has been known to be pretty stubborn...
