48fordnut : Now I know the milling you are refering to. I just looked at a 15x6 pointy strait spoke and a 15x6 1st type "D" spoke, both in 4.5 pattern ;and they both have that milling when they drilled the lug holes. These are both magnesiums. Not alot of clearance on those castings.

I bought a 67 (?) Porsche a few years back. rescued it on the day it was going to get towed from my friends ex mother in laws house where it had been sitting for many years.

paid only $300.00 and sold it for $2500.00 without turning a wrench. it had magnesium Americans on it, which I later found out are worth just about what I sold the whole car for. what a dumbass.:(

Anyone ever seen a set of these? D spokes and 15x9.5. Wanted to make sure they weren't super rare before I drill them for screws

Are you going to drill the center cap screw holes, or screws for holding slicks in place? I'd think drilling for the center cap would be fine and not ruin any value. But drilling for slicks will greatly decrease their worth.

Im planning to drill them for slicks, I know it will hurt the value but i got a pretty decent deal on the set of these. I don't want to ruin them if they are super rare but if they are just about like the regular Americans as far as rarity they will be getting drilled

i hope you don't drill them, they are very rare road racing wheels, don't drill holes for the caps either. i have a mint pair of drag race magnesiums that i would trade if you are interested. what is your backspacing?

I think the back spacing is 3.5 or so. 5x4 3/4 bolt pattern. I have 4 of these wheels

Seriously check with some of the SCCA Trans Am series restoration guys - the road racing torq thrusts were not drilled (for center caps) and that is a quick way to ID the genuine article. You can find another pair for drag racing much easier than some road race guys can find a full set of 4!

EDIT: here's a great thread on how to ID the wheel used in the T/A series:

i would be interested in all 4 of yours for my road race v8 corvair, when i get home from work i will send you the dimensions of my 16x10" drag rims, i think they have a 5" backspace, 4 3/4" bolt pattern, i also have the matching 15x6 magnesium drag fronts as well

Those probably came off a SCCA Corvette...possibly even a 1969 L88...look at the other thread you started about them.

If anyone knows a direction to point me in for potential buyers let me know. I need a set of rear wheels before my first race in April. If I can't find a trade deal on some 15x10 5 spokes or a good cash offer I will be drilling these

I really need 15x10's. That is what the car has been running and what size slicks i have to fit. The wheels are probably for sale or trade though

I just got this 1970 Mustang fastback with Torq Thrust D's on it. Purportedly put on the car by the original owner when new. Not sure of exact sizes but are staggered 15x7 and 15x10 I think. Trying to find the value of these as I will probably be putting them up for sale.

JP...the rears look like 8.5" wide from here. I have a similar set to yours for sale now...mine are Appliance wheels... super nice wheels and near new tires and not one bite at $800 for the set...

Great reason for this to come back around.
Probably the rarest American mag on the planet, upper left is the Torque Thrust "R".
For the reinforcement "rib" on the front of spoke.
    IIRC this is a 15"×12".

    Edit
This actually said it's a"cloned" American.
I have seen originals though, anybody else?
