Couple of Australian HAMB'ers flying from LAX to Billings, Montana stuck in Vegas for a 5 hours stop over waiting for a connecting flight.
Any one have any suggestions what we could fill our hours there that is car related (not interested in walking the strip)
Would be good to visit workshops or home garage scene.
We will be there on Monday May 29th from mid day.
Thanks in advance for feed back...Stuart

That's our Memorial Day, most shops will be closed That leaves the tourist stuff. The old Imperial Palace on the Strip had an auto museum, but its changed hands, don't know if it's still there.

X2 for the car collection at the LINQ Hotel & Casino. Go on-line and get/print FREE admissions tickets for everyone in your group, otherwise its $12.00 per person. Be advised the car collection closes very early, about 5 or 6:00PM. The collection is at the rear of the LINQ, in the parking garage. Take the elevator ride and your there.

Make sure your tickets are printed out for the next leg of the trip before you leave the airport if you haven't printed out all of them before the trip. Vegas airport will be hell for busy that day as all the three day weekend bunch will head there and be headed out abut the same time you get back to the airport. By the time you get to town and back you may have about two hours in town to look

  11. There is a car museum (or used to be) on the strip. You will have to ask. I think it is tied to Caesars Palace but might be tied to another.

Yep been there at Memorial Day . Lines for ever at the terminal ,everyone panicking to get home and catch connecting flights. Finally get on the plane and a weekend drinker been at it hard all weekend. And up she rises vomit everywhere ,lovely. Then the guy has another major health issue, and luckily a doctor was on board, then they took him off. We were in cruise mode so no trouble. Just be aware vegas on a long weekend can get messy!!!!!

Wife and i were at that airport last week end, no problems except for my brother in laws plane held up for 5 1/2 hours. Not airports fault, it was with the airline. Enjoy Vegas and be safe.

Reality is we are taking 2 X 509 Diamond T cabs off frames and shipping back to Australia. Firemansteve and I work together, and I purchased my truck last year before winter then got screwed around with shipping so we are combining resources to dismantle and retrieve both trucks, and have an adventure on the way.
I have already connected with HAMB members to connect with along the way, which will be part of the fun...

This is what we need...local knowledge AND sympathy from a similar experience.
I have previously flown Washington D.C. to Salt Lake City for Bonneville speed week via Phoenix, AZ. and that was a loonng day, hopefully some car related input will lessen the pain.
Your generous offer is certainly appreciated and I hope we can negotiate around the fact it is a holiday, which we didn't realize until mentioned here earlier. I will be in contact...Stuart

Wish I was closer, I would give you guys a hand. Come down to South Dakota and see Mt.Rushmore and I can tour you guys around, Its 6 hours from Billings to Rapid City.

  22. 5 hour layover? As in your plane arrives at noon and departs at 5? Security lines will prolly be long so you'd have to be back at the airport 2 hours before flight time.

Will prolly take you 30-45 minutes to exit plane, walk to a taxi and get driven to the LINQ, MAYBE leaving you 2 hours(which might be too long I haven't seen the collection in years) at the museum, and then a 15-20 minute ride back to airport. Will be a bit of a rush and don't plan on going to 2 places, just my opinion as a long time Las Vegas resident.

    Good luck.

You can see the whole car collection at the LINQ in an hour. If your thinking about renting a car be advised as of last week there is almost NO FREE PARKING at any of the Strip casinos. You could park FREE at the Venetian and WALK to the LINQ. It's not that far apart. If you want to save $$ park at the Venetian and print those FREE PASSES to the car collection at the LINQ.

If you want to eat during your layover and make it out of the terminal, get yourself over to the IN-N-OUT Hamburger joint just off the strip. Mighty good burgers, fries, and shakes!

I'm still with the guys that live there 5 hours on that particular day aren't enough because the terminal will be crowded as all hell with all the weekend warriors who have a three day hang over or are still drunk because the never quit partying or are pissed because they either lost money or didn't hook up with a hottie of their dreams. It just isn't the best day to do a banzi run to town and back and expect to do anything worthwhile.
