Technical A Hurst shifter conundrum or question for the savvy that are a little slow on the draw. LOL

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by porknbeaner, Apr 26, 2017.

  1. Conundrum well not exactly, I ran onto this Hurst shifter. I think its a Hurst any way. It is a 4 speed shifter but it looks like it bolts to the floor. It is the old style with the T handle lockout.

here are the best pics I could finagle.

Got any idea what it is out of?

GM used floor mounted 4 speed shifters quite a bit. The Hurst boot that someone added is there to confuse you.

I agree it's a GM shifter used on a Saginaw box in a Vega or Monza . The insert from a Hurst super boot doesn't belong with it.

  11. Buddy of mine had a Chevy Monza spider years ago...... 1986ish? Shifter looks right for that era/ style of car.

For sure Vega or Monza or their GM look a likes. I used one in a Toyota pickup when I transplanted a Buick V6 and Saginaw 4 speed out of a Monza into it. Always shifted kinda notchy to me.

Probably an ITM shifter, even if it does't say it on the body. Did ITM make Hurst shifters, or did Hurst make ITM shifters? Many look almost like a Hurst only made cheaper. I agree with Vega/Monza type cars, as being where that shifter originated. Some of those shifters bolted to the floor, some to the transmission mount crossmember. They're pretty sloppy, as a general rule. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
