I've been building this 1930 Essex Challenger for a bunch of years now. I started with just the body, grille, hood and fenders. Made my own frame, chopped, channeled, sectioned, pinched, stretched, bobbed, frenched, bagged..... I think that covers it! I'm proud to say I built this car myself, in my little home garage. I realize that I didn't use period correct hot rod parts but I think it still looks like an old hot rod.
Good looking ride. Sure, you might not have used period correct parts, but it's your car, that you built yourself, to do with what you will. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Man that is cool! Low, long and mean looking. You're probably the only guy with one like that I'm sure. Good job!
Thanks, It's got that tough gangster look to it, So I have a plastic Tommy gun in a violin case in the back and brass knuckles for door grabs inside. I may mount a small louisville slugger in it too.
That's a great looking ride. Looks sinister with the headlights between the fenders. What can you do for the rear area between the fenders? Maybe a small trunk like it may have had back in the day?
I do have a plan for the empty space. I'm thinking if I bolt this trailer hitch to the back frame. I can stick the step into it so it will look like a bumper, then fab up a shelf to put a cooler, gas can, trunk, whatever.....
Yeah. Canvas and buttons. I 'm with you on sectioning the rear fenders. Easier said than done I'm afraid....... Your step bumper is not right and will screw up the rear.
Funny thing is.... This car probably won't get painted.... But I am a licensed body man and painter. I do this all day long every day.... so to lop off the fenders and weld them back up can be done in an couple hours. If I don't like it, I just pull out my fender stretcher and make them longer again.
There are a couple of things that I want to do still... like clean up the fiberglass along where I cut the roof. Maybe blow a bit of colour here and there. Figure out something for the back... and I built it so I can run it without fenders. But then it be like 90% of the other rats out there.
Thanks for the good vibes on the fenders. and looking at that step trailer hitch thing... Isn't going to cut it, I will be building some sort of rack for in there. maybe wood slats in a tube frame something like what was on there in the 30's without the trunk though.
Nice build, love the stance. Good to see someone from the "Near North" - the "Bay" was my home town. Keep going.
