IMG_2916.JPG My buddy Tommy painted this up for me. It was supposed to keep an eye on me in the garage to make sure I'm working. I think it needs a visit with the eye doctor.....or I need a swift kick in the butt.

IMG-20170417-WA0001.jpeg I used my day off to reorganize my garage and to make room to fix some stuff on my 56.It was parked at the back and had a leaky third member since who knows when. While at it I also put in new wheel bearing seals plus I found the right rear wheel cylinder was leaking into the drum and a disintegrating rear brake hose.... made in China... Who´d had thought of that:)

It's a 1914 Indian Board Track Racer, with a 1916 Indian Power Plus Engine. It wasn't uncommon for racers to update their bikes with newer faster factory engines, all that was required was changing the engine plates that secure the engine to the frame, and modifying the controls. The race bikes for that period did not have transmissions or brakes. You controlled the speed of the bike with a magneto kill switch, and by twisting the right grip to open the exhaust valves like a modern compression release, and at the same time it retarded the magneto. The left grip controlled the carburetor. The linkage for the controls was before cables and operated using universal joints, pivot arms, and sleeves that slid in and out as the handlebars were turned. IMG_2265.JPG IMG_2268.JPG On street bikes you pedaled the engine to start it, the racing bikes had the pedals secured in place as feet rest, and the bikes were push started. I have been slowly putting the bike together between other things. Mike Lange built the racing engine, and the rest I have done. IMG_2267.JPG

I raced 125 Honda powered gearbox karts in the early 80's, curious what powered yours.
