The white plastic posts that are popping up on the hood are where the body pins go to hold down the body to the frame. Later, they were painted the same yellow to match in front and black to match the rear bed color.

    Hello D,

Thank you for the nice comments. I like drawing flames as it is something I like to do and get creative. The designs are endless. I even drew red flames on my granddaughter’s white “tennies” much to her delight, but I took a lot of $#%$ from her parents for that move. (of course new white “tennies” were purchased…) My white Converse low cuts looked much better with colorful flames gracing the sides and toe. Ha!

This yellow R/C truck is the 2nd version. The first try looked similar, but I had put on too many coats of paint and with the first roll over coming down a hill, the paint chipped off and left a huge hole between the flames. Luckily, clear plastic bodies were inexpensive and another one was started. This time, after the initial permanent thin line pen was used to create the flame patterns, the hand brush was used to fill in the color between the lines. The layer of paint was a single coat. It almost does not matter how much paint is applied on the clear plastic body, the first coat shines through and the outside takes credit for a shiny, glossy, coat. No need for two coats or more underneath.

The thin line black marker never chipped off. The white details were also a thin line paint marker and that never chipped off. The only paints that did chip were the multiple coats of any color. Don’t be too worried about what the inside of the Lexan body looks like when finished. No one sees that unless asked to show it. The outside clear shiny finish makes the underside paint look like a clear lacquer on the other side that everyone sees.

On the buggy, I painted the flames on the helmet with the same thin line black marker first, then filled it with paint. The highlighted yellow inside of the flames were also a thin line yellow paint marker.

If I could have painted the whole thing with thin line black markers and paint markers, it would have been much better making fewer mistakes. But, the paint brush was necessary in the larger areas. A fine line black outliner/detailer, pen is a must.

Of course, the flames were drawn on paper for practice. The used plastic body left over from the initial crash and chip, made a handy practice place for designs. Actually, any clear plastic sheet or those from pop out covers on toys and tools would work. Also, everything you draw on the inside of the clear lexan/plastic has to be backwards as it must look normal on the outside view. That is the hardest thing for me, drawing backwards flames. I am used to drawing flames going right. Here is one last option. You could paint the design on the inside and draw the black outline on the outside, but you would lose the shiny finish that makes the whole car look like a professional paint job.

Once I ran the truck at the R/C track near our house and it stood out quite well. All of the other cars there had decals, stickers, and numbers on the outside, so the inside was one or two main colors. That was not the look I wanted for my cars…They had to look like real cars you might see on the street or show. Plus, the bright yellow and blue basic color stood out from clear across the track. There were some very aggressive drivers there and it was not fun playing jalopy derby with these finished cars. My truck took a beating too many times, so the next body had no chips/cracks/or paint blotches since I rarely crashed in my own backyard, “Field Of Dreams” track…

  8. Thanks Mate, Happy good Friday and Easter to you as well... I don’t think the mods will mind if I blend in a bit of my other art, if so, they may remove it and I won’t be offended. Hope the HAMB family won’t be offended either...

Couldn't resist one more... I've been working on a detailed chassis and parts, creating everything via eyeball engineering. I think headers, a center mounted bomber seat and trunk mounted fuel tank are in order... Maybe cowl steering too!

48 -1.jpg 48-3.jpg I feel a home on the F.A.S. so here goes. Not much time this week for a paint brush.... but I have some art for everyone. This Merc. Convert has been on the family farm for at least 50 years. This week it came out of the small shed it has been stored in. What a Car!

Every Easter, my Ukrainian background emerges, and I make "Pysanky", fancy Easter eggs. A tradition over 4000 years old, it was taught to me by my grandmother. I've put up pics every year here, justifying it, that it's kind of like pinstriping???? Yes, these are real eggs, duck, goose, bantam hen, and one Rhea (the real big one).
