Technical Is anyone still using 4 speed transmissions?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Apr 13, 2017.

  1. Two of mine are the IMG_2035.JPG '39 and '71

  2. I have a friend who has had a T10 in his SBC model A rod since the '70's. About ten years ago he adapted the O/D from a Borg Warner three speed to it. Four speeds with overdrive!

Most of mine have had T-10's but my '36 3w is going to have a N.V.G. A833.

017.JPG I only had 3speeds. Stuck in the 50s n early 60s,wow, a 4 speed was amazing an very hard to find or get back then. Here we are asking if anyone is still using a 4speed any more, feeling old.
Even more so,I just blow first gear out of my old 57 Ford 3speed,an putting my last spair in this coming week. Always looking for y-block parts an 3s tran's.

3.50 first Sag with a comp plus in my 54 Chevy 6 cylinder. Had the shifter since 1968, it's been in the Chevy since 1990.

I have come to my senses in an effort to keep my 32 PU builds truly traditional. Out with the t5 and in with the 60s t10!
    Can't wait.

Not using one yet, but a toploader 4spd is going in my next 32 5w build. It will be mated up to a wicked Y-Block.

Running a '57 Vette Saginaw 3 spd. behind a 283 of the same source in my new roadster. Pretty oldtimey setup and actually pretty nice on the street. '55 rear with an Eaton posi in it. In a super light car it should be fairly decent.

A833 here behind a blown 331 hemi. I grew up thinking hot rods have 3 pedals and 4 speeds. So its only natural I chose to run one in my Model A project

  16. Always felt that sticks and hot rods went hand in hand. My 36 has a M20 behind the small block with 3:55 cogs, comes out of the hole real strong and is tons of fun to drive.

I have a 66 mustang top loader 4 speed converted to Jeep top shifter behind my 50 Ford flathead! Fits perfect in my 31 roadster. What else can you do when someone gives it to you!:D

When I got my '55 in 1970 it had a 327 with a Muncie. It still does. I thought five speeds came in farm implements.

Only my vintage motorcycle has 4-gears.

Everything else I have on the road has six.

My Nomad, which I bought in January of '91, has had a M20 Muncie with Hurst Competition Plus shifter for 17 years this month. Sometimes I wish I had another gear (overdrive) but most of the time I just have fun.

4 speed toploader behind my 351C in my 66 mustang. A Mr. Gasket shifter. A gear vendors overdrive is an option for better mileage - but they're pricey

Freewheels under 35 , typically 4 shifts & let off the gas for highway mode & passing gear is a hoot when floored. Neat thread HRP. Flux

1966 belvedere a833 daily driver. It just feels right. 3.23 but 3.55s coming soon. Starting from scratch....I would do a 5speed for "more fun" gearing and overdrive for road trips.

I've run a Muncie 4spd behind my 327 in my daily driver 57 for years. Every now and again I get the over drive itch, put the 3spd OD back in, get tired of non synchro 1st gear in traffic and switch back to Muncie.
