Allison Aircraft , Cummins Diesel , but my must favorable Hot Rod engine is hands down FE Ford , I have owned many , torque of a Cat Diesel and run all day long without a heat up issue. Kind of a piece of history now . But first car was a 67 Fairlane , trans planted 428 SCJ , big spline top loader , 4.30 Detroit Locker . Bang a gear would give you the feeling of being hit by a freight train ! The ash tray would leave the dash and end up on the floor !

Small journal 327, 427 chevy.rb chrysler, and the 351 cleveland. Are my faves. A 406 or 427 ford would be neat, but too pricey for my broken budget.

I consider myself an equal opportunity hot rodder. Engines in my shop right now, not necessarily installed in cars. And in no particular order:
    Chevy 283/220
    Chevy 327/340
    Chevy 427/435
    Mopar 318
    Mopar 400
    Mopar 440
    Cadillac 331
    Cadillac 472
    Cadillac FH V8
    Ford FH V8
    Ford 312 Y Block
    Chevy 235
    Chevy 292
    Mopar FH 4 cyl

I'm tired of typing. My apologies to any in my stable I may have overlooked. I'll make it up to you.

  7. You know, those small block Ford Mustangs do have a nice sound. You can pick them out in a crowd, long before you see them.

For whatever the reason, I have always had a thing for the 427 FE w/dual quads.

I like the 327 in the Camaro, it has its original quadrajet and it just purrs. But I also like the 350 in the '69 Firebird. Someone long ago added a 4bbl intake and a period correct quadrajet. At idle, you think it has a better cam, and it loves to rev and drink fuel. And the 302 in the '70 Ford F-100 is a great little engine/ esp. with its newly rebuilt carb. But what do I love? That would be the 228 stovebolt 6 in the '46 GMC. It starts easily each Spring, like it ran yesterday- and we go down the road just like it was 1946, weaning it off the manual choke a little at a time. In a few minutes, it idles like a well oiled sewing machine. Yeah, that's the one I love.

  14. Mopar 340-383/400-440 and any hemi. Of course the SBC and Ford FE. I like em all and just started getting into the big Cadillac's of the 70's hard to beat almost 500 lbs of torque in a stock motor that weighs not much more than a 350.
Almost forgot the GSXR1300, a true straight line rocket.

engines.jpg I have posted this picture way to many times. But, if you want to know what engine I love. Here it is. I liked making the head to use dual plugs. I liked cutting the fins to match the side cover. I liked making the side cover. I liked making the twin distributor. I didn't much like sweeping up the chips. I liked the Century Club shirt it got me. And the El Mirage trophys. The OHV engine I liked. But not as much. Still a Muroc record will stand for a really long time. I really liked showing people a Plymouth banger. Most have only seen a Ford. And i like that it's not some engine i saw in a book. It was mine.

  21. My 327 small journal was nice in my '57 with a T-10. The injected 401 nailhead in my A/SR was the highest torque motor I have ever had. The 392 hemi's in my '51 have been amazingly smooth and powerful. The four bangers in my cabriolet, back in the sixties and now again are the most fun. They all have their own character, some good, some not so much.

  22. i like anything on nitro. i don't care if its a cox airplane engine or the latest top fuel hemi. i do have a favorite and it is the hemi. its has enjoyed three generations spread over 50 years and still going strong with last nights unveiling of the demon. 845hp this time 9.45 off the showroom floor. its a good time to be a mopar fan. the hemi won the first horse power war and its winning the second.

I know this is OT, but I really like the 15 HP Kohler in my old JD lawn tractor.
It's easy to remember the firing order 1-1-1-1-1-............!
It always starts right up, it does far more than it should, it sips fuel compared to my hot rods!
A full spring service all filters, oil, and spark plug for around $25 "such a deal"
    What's not to like?

  24. 370readysmall.JPG I still like my Pontiac V/8s. But if I have any trouble outta my latest Pontiac motor, I have all the parts to put together a killer 301 'cept heads
