  2. Aussie Ford Mainline utility, built in Oz on an imported Ford convertible chassis. This one could be 1955, '56 or '57.

Seems like there are a lot of repeats recently. Could we be running out of originals.

  7. The Packard marine engine for the PT boats was a bigger unit - 2500 cubic inch - and was Packard's own design. Packard built Merlins (V1650) and Allison built Allisons (V1710) for aviation use.

I guess it was the mandatory set for all shop classes. A guy in our class heated a pair of pliers in the heat treat furnace and threw them on the floor. End of class every one sitting down and the teacher goes to check that all tools are back in the cabinet. He spots the pliers on the floor and goes over and grabs them. He did not hold them for long. No one knew who had left them there. About 3 months later the wise guy decides to try it again. It seems like the teacher was watching, waiting for it to happen again and spotted him doing it. This time he tells him to go pick up the pliers. He wont do it and then the beating started. The teacher was punching him and slapping him. In 1964 this wasn't a problem. Today it would a felony.

1955 GMC L’Universelle Concept Vehicle - Though Chrysler executive Lee Iacocca and his designers generally are credited with inventing the minivan in the early 1980s, Earl came up with a remarkably similar concept a quarter-century before them. The L’Universelle, a front-wheel-drive car/truck hybrid with the driver’s compartment in front of the engine, was nearly a foot lower than conventional panel trucks, yet had as much space inside as much larger vehicles.

Sir Vival (1958) Walter C. Jerome's Sir Vival Safety Car, 1958 Walter C. Jerome of Worcester, Massachusetts was a man possesed by a mission to make the world's safest car. In the end, he failed to advance auto safety but Jerome's segmented sedan might easily qualify as the world's strangest car.
