I have a set of seat springs from Snyder's for my '32 Roadster. Anyone know how much height the padding and cover will add to the springs? I am building a lowered seat riser and need to know how high to make it.
Any less and you will feel and see the springs. By the time you put the spring cover and a piece of jute or? over the springs and then a GOOD piece of 1'' then scrim [or sew foam] in the cover it should be good.
Really depends on the upholsterer. Can be thinner with dense padding or thicker with foam. But I'd agree that it can be done in 2". Are they coils? Will there be sewn channels?
Remember you are not going to sitting on TOP of that spring and upholstery, rather it will be cushioning you from the road action the suspension cannot overcome. You will depress the upholstered cushion a couple or three inches and ride in that cradle rather than just on it. Rod seating is not magic. Ford made his seats to deter pain the horrid roads of the 'teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s dished out to drivers and passengers. If the suspension of the car works, the suspension in the seat will too but both must be working for you. When we do Tbuckets we use new T seat springs from Car Line in Beaumont Tx.
