Glad to hear you are able to now spend some time in the shop, and yes, stop and rest when you are tired. Try to eat right and keep a positive outlook.
I'll turn 80 later this year and I have done some research and followed it up with dietary changes along with carefully monitored medication and dietary herbals and supplements, resulting in improvements in things like A1C (blood sugar), cholesterol, etc., have lost around 10# over the Winter when I usually gained weight, am walking a little better, and feel lots better. Taking care of yourself rather than just sitting down and saying "woe is me" works!

been havin an "issue" w the Merc's fuel guage not workin right -- also a smell of raw gas if tank is too fiull -- cured both today -- fuel sending unit is on top of tank UNder the spare tire in it's well under the rear floorboard -- spare tire looks a LOT like toDAY's "space saver spares" in that, it's tiny compared to the tires and wheels I've outfitted the Merc w to be safe and manurverable -- it's a 710x15 RAYon cord fouye ply bias - ply Phillips 66 oRIGINAL 1956 tire that the ambulance CAME with OE! [ ambulance was originally owned by the Phillips Oil Refinery in Borger Texas ] had 30,000 original miles on it when I purchased it from an employee of the company in 1978 -- NOW it has 372,000 and change!! *this* spare STILL has the "nubbies" on it having been used just ONCE in the life of the ambulance -- from Spring St EB I-8 CD home to the ranch -- after havin a rear tire BLOW out there -- [ that story fer anuther time ]

anyways-- got the sendin unit out -- float was filled w gas [IMG]:p Luckily I HAD a spare [IMG]:) but hadta painstakingly *make* a new gasket for the unit -- guage WORKS agin! WHOOPIE -- nearly ran OUT day before yesterday but didn't KNOW it till I filled up and discovered how close I had been TO empty!!

Last time *I* ran out of gas was moren 20 years ago when Beulah's guage had decided to become unreilable in the same fashion -- I had had several OOG incidents that day, and, I was in the CD, NB I-5 @ the "S" curves downtown, puttin gas into a vehicle on the other side of the CD -- [ SB ] when I heard Beulah's idle note stumble and stop [IMG]:O!! I just stopped pouring into the stranded vehicle's tank in time to have enuf left to put in Beulah's tank!

Fella I'd just helped asked if I needed him to go git some gas for ME? [IMG];)

Because she has a rotory electric fuel pump and I'd not turned the ignition off when she died, she started RIGHT UP when I turned the key after [IMG]:)

Nope, said I as I did so [IMG]:)

As for the hands, at some point after 9/11/01, as the feds tightened up security in all aspects of airlines, there was a mandate issued that all airline employees that had physical access to the planes be fingerprinted so they could run them thru the feds' computers and make sure we were all who we claimed we were.
They tried 3 times to take mine and they were so worn down that they couldn't get a positive (or a negative) print. They had to send in a specialist who was trained to handle worn fingers to get prints.

They need to consider hiring old men like us to be spies ;) NO one would suspect ;) and they couldn't identify our fingerprints because they're all worn off

    Just now ·
more progress [IMG]:) -- EVERY thing is takin looooonger then it useta -- gittin the core-support strengthing rod lined up took a neighbor pushin on one fender & my "witch" pushin on the other to line up the bolt hole to git it DONE! Whew! It's DONE!

Fan clearance issue solved as well - -but -- in the future it will be necessary to remove the radiator to remove the fan [IMG]:O [IMG]:(

On a GOOD note -- today's the FIRST day I'm not "shamblin" when I gave Sadie her mornin walkie [IMG]:) Left ...

when the radiator is out and this rod removed, the front fenders "relax" a littl and it becomes a PITA to get them back ----

  15. Looks like you are making good progress. Just curious, what does NAPA look like in Arabic. Are you becoming fluent in Farsi? It's shocking to see what El Cajon has become. I have a customer that moved here in November and are closing on the sale of their home in El Cajon tomorrow. Keep up the good work.

    a TWOfer t-DAY [IMG]:)

went out t-day 09/06/12 and perambulated around my usual haunts some -- thru the park and over the bridge a coupla times -- to the "Dusty" fer Shela to romp & sniff -- hadn't come upon anyone in need of my talents -- UNTILL -- headin home, I-8 EB JEO the College ave on ramp to -- on the RS, a pickup w a fella just raisin his hood as I blew by in the #2 lane
[ universal sign of distress ]

began to manuver over to the #5 lane to git off @ 70th St and go back -- as I pass WB I look over and *now* there's THREE pickups on the RS off @ College all t-geather ??

well, I almost pass em by thinkin first truck'll be all right now -- BUT -- my "spidy sense" kicks in to cause me to come up behind em and stop all lit up & strobin the arrow bar cause we're right at the end of the merge from the College ramp and it's dangerous here on a slight curve -

I'm *assumin* alla these trucks are tgeather [IMG];)

sooo I go up to the first truck and he's got a RR FT w no spare -- poor small jack -- SO i whip out my service jack and after he's loosened the lug nuts I raise the axle and we set it down on the shock mount on 6 2x4x8 wood blocks I carry fer JUST this kinda perdicument -- this way, when he comes back w a new tire on his wheel he kin install it and drive offa the blocks -- told Im to "pass em on" [IMG]:)

now, as I'm walking past the second pickup the passenger asks if i have any gas?

[ they'd rolled up behind the truck with the FT as they were running OOG [ Out Of Gas ] and *then* the THIRD pickup w the FIRST's pickups buddies in it comin to help him rolled up behind *them* :):) [IMG]:)

    whoa Susanna!

So, I gave them some gas -- got their truck started - and instructed each driver to leave seperately in sequence starting w ME and NOT to pull out tgeather and NOT to pull out before ME - so we didn't ALL git killed by onconing traffic [IMG];)

Got er done safely -- coupla more "routine" stops on the resta the trip home and anuther beautiful day o livin fer me [IMG]:) i'm tuckered --

She's been dead since last October [ the Merc ] -- since then, a LOT of water under the bridge -- my faithfull CO pilot Shela passed away -- I became a STROKE "survivor" -- thankfully a small one, though as is clear in the video, my movements are somewhat hampered :( improvin tho -- you can HEAR Sadie, our new "littl LADY" barkin in the background!! She was exCITED the Merc is running, as I have promised her RIDES to the "Dusty" as I did for Shela in *her* lifetime :) Who knew? :) She listens and understands :O

:D ALways LIKED THISun the original's good too :) but THISun's my "road trip' song

THISin here is my EASY cruisin melody -- you kin visualize us cruisin along, spottin someone needin help, helpin em, & pullin away smiling and waving after -- always though thisun would be a perfect accompaniment to shoot an UPbeat video with.

Sadly, Shela gained her wings before "She" could star in something like this :( but She

definitely HAD her "moments in the sun" while she WAS here

ToDAY is the first time the Merc has MOVED on her own power -- NEW ENGINE! YEA! sounding strong! Sounds like a HOT rod!

    throbbing POWer!

On anuther note -- this afternoon is the FIRST time I've had to "discipline" Sadie [IMG]:( Took her for a walkie, down to the end of our street --- annnnd -- HEY! LOOK! a SQUIRREL!!!! and aWAY she went -- jerked the leash right outta my left hand [ stroke affected hand ] that I'd been leadin her with to rebuild it's strength. Took 15 min of callin & coaxin afore she returned TO me -- walked her home, and as I'd done final adjustment work on the Merc and judged it ready to run, I prepared Sadie's harness IN the Merc and began to "install" her -- [ remember that squirrel? ] well Sadie hadn't forgotten it either [IMG]:O the SECond the garage door lifted, she was OFF LIKE A HONEY COLORED GHOST!! FLYING DOWN THE SIDEWALK SO FAST SHE LOOKED LIKE A GOLDEN STREAK!

All the way back to the end of the block to where she had last seen the squirrel -- looking ALL over for it -- I drove the Merc down the street to ketch up w her and called, whistled, and clapped to no end [IMG]:p Sadie headed home and evaded 2 neighbors tryin to ketch her for me -- to end up on our cabin's front porch -- I pulled into the driveway, shut down the Merc, took her by her collar, shut the door and "disciplined" her with a rolled up newspaper BAD DOG! I'm lookin at a very contrite littl lady just now --

Sadie took off -- OH LOOK -- a SQUIRREL! [IMG]:(
caught up w her @ the end of the block but she WOULDN'T come -- :(
