“Bowling Night”

I had my sketch book with me at the lanes. The first page was a sketch I’d started of an old Ford but abandoned because I must have been unhappy with it. Fast forward, I decided any sketch should be completed no matter what the outcome. Proportions could be better but when I saw that 8-10 lines on the paper, I visualized this. Funny how time can cause us to see things in a different light.

This rail goes back a looong way, ex- B/D national champ. I used to like watching this car race 40 years ago- it was a sharp act. Dig the old style links in the suspension, no heim joints here. Sketched on- site at OL' SKOOL/ NEW AGE last Sunday






Sometimes, things are a lil' hectic at the end of a summer show. This was sketched in 5- 10 minutes at the same show- I had to tell Nick to keep looking at the same fixed point. He had a roving eye. We're happy enough so far. This will be worked into a portrait with his so- fine '49 Merc monterey..

Hello,

In the early 80’s computer video games were at an all time high in popularity, such as, Pac Man, Frogger, Qix, Donkey Kong, etc. I liked the Pac Man game and thought that would be a good icon for a drawing. Thus, Pac Man Racing came into being. The whole theme was going to be Pacman and the emphasis was an off road 4x4 van for the chase vehicle in the Baja Races. Of course, the modified motor had a 671 sticking up between the seats and the scoop was funneled under the dash for air coming from the filtered louvers.

I could never get the opposite side wheels to look correct on any drawings. So I always left them off,especially those of the angled drawings. Also this is the second right facing drawing. I wanted to show the van’s funny short hood, but it could have been any of those blunt stubby nosed vans of the time. A gender neutral van.

The favoring/using of these silly games went to an all time high one night, as we all turned off the room lights. The only light was the glow on our faces from the hand held Pacman game for me, the Galaxian game for my son and the first handheld game, Space Invaders, for my wife. We played for hours and replaced the batteries once. The only sound in the living room was the dat dat dat dat, of each game, including the downward spiral sound of being eaten on Pacman.

I saw this and thought what a cool road trip bus.

Me and my friend Pere Hartman sponsored a cruise last spring (VINTAGE PERFORMANCE TOURING) along VA Rt. 11 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our first stop was Bruce Elders museum in Staunton, VA
