I like what I see,I have been wanting to use one of those motors if I could get a manual trans bellhousing. I could of had a 462 Lincoln motor cheap and would like to have put it and a 4 speed in a 55/6 Ford.
we are running an FE bellhousing, only a couple of years match up to the MEL. Toploader 4sp, 9 inch the 430 has an unknown offset ground crank to stroke it. Isky custom cam and valve train, joe hunt mag, the 6 deuces and jahns pistons. Can not wait to fire it up
Very, Very Nice. The most common offset grind I have seen on MEL's is take the rods down to the BBC's 2.200" journal diameter. This gains you 0.4" of stroke. Depending on the bore, that should give you somewhere around 480 to 490 cubic inches. With the 4 spd, that will be a whole lot of fun in a light '39 Coupe. Even with a stockish cam, the torque will be diesel like. The 430 was nicknamed "Bulldozer" for a reason. With the longer stroke, you should easily exceed the stock 500 ft-lbs of torque. Keep up the good work.
Looking good! Havnt seen your pops on the hamb in a long time was wondering how this was coming along
430...'Bulldozer'? Hadn't heard that one, but it's a close description. My late partner Jim Rose bought a '54 F100 from an elder gent who moved here from Bakersfield. F100 had a 3 speed top loader behind the 430 Lincoln. I tuned it for Jim, (it had been used and not 'maintained', points were barely opening, late timing, etc.) Full service, lit it up and 'balanced it out', road tested it and scared myself...WAY too much torque for a 65/35 weight distributed Ford pickup! Like driving on ice...while being 'nose-heavy'. Gadzooks, that thing was fast!
Yeah, that looks like something that could stain your shorts! Be sure to post a video when you fire it off!
What brand is the intake ? I have a friend with a NOS Weiand Drag Star 6 deuce for MEL. Great car, that aught to make the neck hair stand up on the folks !
