Hey Rich, good to hear from you. You coupe would be a great one to do; I don't think I have another one in me. This bodywork is pulling me under..I've even thought of buying a pair of Carpenter rear fenders just to speed things up.

I have been doing body/paint work for over 50 years now...if you don't love it then have someone else do it. If you are working on your doors now here is a little tip, buy yourself a 3M Fairing Board (http://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-...+8710927+8711017+3293086847+3294857497&rt=rud) it will make your life much easier. There is no way that I could get my panels as flat as they are with anything else.
Yes, I believe that the wheels are 17's, front and rear.

Thanks for the link; I'll check the paint store. I never "loved" body work, but when I was younger I didn't mind it especially the metal finishing. Is your car black, or a real dark blue?

The paint on the car is House of Kolor "Teal" Shimrin 2 #1544. It looks almost black in the shade but when the sun hits it you can see the pearl and heavy metallic as well as the tints of green and gold. It is a PITA to shoot because it is very translucent like a candy. After all the panels are painted and installed I am going to have to go over the whole car and make sure they are all the same tint. Here's a pic of the car in the sun...

I'd really like to see that in person. It looks so good in the picture. Good job.

I belong to Forties Limited of Orange County. Every June we host a Forty Ford Day show in the Fullerton area of LA. This year it will be June, 25th. If you love 40 Fords then this is the not-to-miss show. June is a great month to come to SoCal...Father's Day LA Roadster Show, F100 Western Nationals (with a tour of the Edelbrock production facility), and Forty Ford Day just to mention a few events.

On my bucket list but not this year. I'm still thinking about HRR in Bowling Green this year.

    Joel, car is looking good.
My real question, is Dale's Auto going to participate in a NSRA get together this May ?
Did not see it listed in SreetScene this month.

More work on the doors. We had family here for my mother in laws 93rd B day, but I worked a little.
The first pix are drivers side (worst side).
    IMG_0394 (800x451).jpg
initial bondo application. The light grey blothes are where I light used a long board to show the low spots.

    IMG_0395 (800x465).jpg
Had to add more after first cut.

    IMG_0397 (800x520).jpg
All sanded with 120 and ready for more prime. I don't think I'll need more mud; just a coat of DP and then K36.

    IMG_0396 (800x527).jpg
Pass. door is the same deal just less mud and sanding.
    IMG_0398 (800x436).jpg IMG_0399 (800x462).jpg
2 hour wait to apply the K36. After the Race, probably.

Good progress for one day Joel. I have been prepping my flathead short block for some ford blue today. It is amazing how much wear and tear it showed after just 2000 miles.Watched the NASCAR race while I masked things off.

We did not find any problems with the bearings or bores. We did find problems with the valve train though. The valves were ground incorrectly and the valve spring installed height was way off for my cam. Most of the problem appears to be caused by the use of the Chevrolet valves I bought from Speedway. The ring the valve keepers seat in are located about 1/8" farther down the valve stem than on a typical 8BA valve. So I had to make up some spacers on my old lathe to fill the gap to allow for the 2" installed spring height. I chose to change out the crank, rods and pistons for a 4" SCAT crank and H Beam rods. Totally unnecessary but I just wanted to do it. It has proved to be an exercise in frustration and patience so far but the short block is built now and we should be installing the engine and trans in the car next week.

That's good news; It's probably close to driving season out there. I'm doing " prime on, prime off.

Maybe the final coats of prime on the doors and some sanding done; I need to get some guide coat Monday. I sanded the decklid and sprayed DP on in preparation for filler tomorrow. IMG_0408 (800x476).jpg IMG_0409 (800x470).jpg IMG_0410 (703x800).jpg
After the doors and decklid are blocked, I can move the body back to finish prep. Sound easy, doesn't it.

I've never had to do that, but my hat is off to those that have.

I'm back on the deck lid today. Today is my anniversary, so I'll have to quit early to go out tonight.
IMG_0411 (800x562).jpg IMG_0412 (800x532).jpg I have to skim a few places that were a little low. After lunch I can knock this out. The big spot in the center was from an old braze job where the little V8 plaque used to be.

The filler is blocked out and a coat of DP to cover the bare spots. K38 goes on tomorrow AM.

That has to be a tough part to work on. Pretty long reach to the middle. Looks good Joel.

That is a long reach, which is why(at least 1 of the reasons) I've lined up a shop that will paint the color. When I started on the prep work I quickly noticed that holding the gun at arms length with a full cup was something I used to be able to do. As I spray more, it's getting more manageable.
Yesterday, I talked to the shop and my opening got pushed back to mid summer. I wasn't going to be ready for May anyway, so that's a good thing.
How's the engine for the coupe coming along?

Thanks man. I waited too long; I would be enjoying it more if I was 10 years younger

Engine is in and running. No leaks so far. We have to adjust the timing a little more and although the rebuilt transmission shifts well through the 3 gears the overdrive will not engage. So we will be trying to sort that out today.

For the last couple of days, I've been working on the inside of the deck lid. It has the original waffle pattern insulation still in and in good condition . I spent some time masking that stuff.

Ready for sealer. When you look at the thumbnail, you can see the wrinkles from the Henry stamping dies.
IMG_0417 (800x638).jpg Maybe I'll get some color on this afternoon.

Inside of the deck lid is painted and tomorrow I can flip it over to block the outside.

I just realized that it looks like 2 different pieces, but it's the angle of the camera. I was trying to get the color to show up.

  30. Joel, looking good! Out of curiosity, why don't you paint the car yourself? You've mentioned taking it to a shop but you're doing a great job on the portions you're painting.
