Describe center vertical row of water holes in block and measure bore with ruler
Look at bottom, pan rails...are there two freeze plugs in each, or nothing?
Manifold surface...flat all the way across block, or gasket area higher??
Oil holes at back...two regular holes, but is there a raised boss for a third, or even a third hole?

HS probably stands for hardened sleeves. These are the thin steel sleeves. They started in 1938 and continued through until 1941 or 42.
