Glenn To answer your question about who "Acmo" (who nicknamed your Dad) was; note my earlier post showing the name of Tom Acmo McLaughlin. He was one of the older members of the GCRC - 13 years older than I was. He had raced at the prewar Lakes and on through 1953. He held several Russetta records and won lots of trophies at the drags. He finished No. 1 in the 1953 Russetta Points Championship. He knew many of the racers and manufacturers in racing, including drag racing, oval track and Indy car racing and lakes racing. He was a great guy and we all learned from him. I considered him a very close friend and he was a good friend of your Dad's.
Glenn Here is a picture of Acmo at the Lakes in 1953. The Hupp/Graham was powered by a 260" GMC engine using Howard Cams equipment. Tom set the 1953 Class A Sedan record with this car.
Very cool pictures! I have a few vintage Bonneville pictures in my thread at http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...res-bonneville-racing-and-old-farmers.801156/ Most of them are from the original endurance speed trial. You'll find some front drive Cords with the same body as that Hupp/Graham.

Mike, Unless your uncle swapped axles or hubs, the car is a 1936. 1935's had the small bolt pattern, 1936's went to the wide five bolt pattern. Zane.
Bringing this up for the new guys. The way it was in the mid to late 40's when hot rods were at their peak of popularity. This is a must read. It speaks to a unique time in history and to the work ethic of the time. Enjoy.
This originally was a Road Ramblers Club Car, but club changed to So-Cal Roadster Club that finally merged with the San Diego Roadster Club. It’s my PRC Car when I get it street worthy vs cruising around the lake bed, but here it is 1947, And here in 2017, 70 yrs later. That guy @ the front is Oz, he just happens to be the tall guy in the pic w/o the shirt on Bro in law - Bill Burke. Oz married his sister 55 yrs ago and spent alot of time at Elmo and Bonneville.
Hey Karl thanks' for the bump! Hard to believe that it's been three years since I started this thread. As they say; how time flies when you're having fun! Kevin, I really enjoy seeing the pictures of your car. It is nothing short of amazing that you were able to keep it and identify it after all these years. Really like the roll pan on it too. P.s. I think it was decided in this thread that 900$ was a fair amount money back then.
Mine was in Los Angeles in 1947 too. I am not sure if it ran at the lakes or not. It was a channelled car. (It is now unchannelled) shown in avatar. Probably won't be able to identify it because the flathead cad and funky Hudson radius rods were probably added later as seen in the photo in St. Louis 1951 Who knows, maybe it was in the PRC.
Here’s a couple more either lakes cars, One PRC Car, a famous guys car and a pretty kool group of cars... Gotta start out with a pioneer speed shop owner who is more famous for his pics and other Hot Rod than this unique Tub and his Place in Pasadena History -J.Allen Hawkins. This bitchin lil Roadster (I’m not exactly positive) is Ray Ingram’s = RTA timer. The one above sends most Hot Rodder - Lakes enthusiasts over the MQQN! It’s Fred Larsen’s AV8. This is just a NICE HOT ROD!!! Either Johnny Ryan or Nelson Taylor’s (I’m too lazy to look it up.) This is my 21 stud car 64D along with 24 stud 64B Here’s a kool lil 27 T-Ster.....I’ve had it for years Followed up by a Hot Rod Cover Car and fellow TC neighbor = Don Waite.
