Mine usually trend to having that rusty patina look.
Sure it will become trendy at some point.

Can someone tell me whether my thinking was a bit askew?
So glad that paint doesn't define an engine because by building an all aluminum engine I saved a lot of money on paint.

I generally paint engines Ford red or Chevy orange\red.My favorite engine color combo is red and black.I am building an FE right now and am thinking of painting it Ford red with black trim. DSCN0945.JPG DSCN1012.JPG DSCN1470.JPG

  7. You could paint a plastic car ford blue, put a ford blue BBC in it and there'd be at least one guy who'll puke on his shirt and shit his pants then if you call it traditional everyone will rally around the excuses.

further to this, I wont post a bunch unless someone wants me to, but I have looked at a bunch of Shelby American photos in the last 1/2 hour, almost all are flat black with a few bare cast iron. pretty safe to say that most GT-40s would have had a black engine. Its a slim possibility the very early John Wyer prepped cars had engines that were a different colour, but he lost the program early on, and it went to Shelby American. Shelby American took the GT-40 program over effective Dec. '64.

  11. 1963, had a chopped/channeled Model A, drove it 7 miles and rolled it, look closely and you'll see I had painted the engine "orchid", what was I thinking, ha!

Geez... I didn't mean if the the motor matches the body it's a street rod and cannot be traditional. It's more that the billet street rod bunch seemed to always go that way and I just got bored with that look. Especially during that pastel fad in the early nineties.

  19. Some people don't know that Chevy's were red. That's what I painted mine, red...

And the 57 265 was yellow. The color was for quick identification. [IMG]

  24. I like orange, but the 429 Cadillac had to be blue. The smog rails have since been deleted, by the way.

  28. I use engine paint regardless of color. It is durable and easy to touch up if needed. I go black or whatever the correct color is for that engine. I avoid things like puke green or baby shit yellow.

  29. I swapped an engine in my buddy's Van. I painted it safety yellow.
He's freaking out about a yellow engine, I told him it's a 1000 times easier to see in there when working on it in the deep dark holes.
